Reggie's Bet? NSMBwii vs MW2...

MKWII has only just crossed the 20 milion mark, and that's with the help of the Wii's 2 highest years in sales, so don't count on NSMB selling like MKWii did the year it was released.

Over time it's possible NSMB > MW2. More so than not, but it's not going to be anywhere near as quickly as MKWII > GTAIV.

 

and yes I know you didn't bring up MKWII VS GTAIV, I just wanted to bring it up.

It's not Wii games with legs we're talking about, it's Nintendo's evergreens. Mario Kart Wii will manage over 1.5mil this month (its second December), while Modern Warfare 1 last year couldn't manage 500k. That's a pretty large difference.

As for Mario Kart Wii's sales assisted by the Wii's high sales, that's understandable, but the same applies to Modern Warfare 2. Also, I don't see its legs being as high as MW1's, as it should follow the sequel pattern - much more frontloaded, smaller legs. We should be able to tell as early as Jan, or Feb.

Obviously MW2 will put up a better fight than GTAIV, though I think NSMB Wii will be above by December this year.
edit: Might be slightly early, I'd give it Q1 2011.

This bet is unbelievably simple, the only way you can get it wrong is if you choose to ignore words in the very video where it's from. The bet is - outselling MW2 on 360 in the Americas before the end of January - which sadly, it probably won't be doing. So Reggie loses his bet, but NSMBWii is a sales monster and will easily beat MW2s lifetime, probably across both platforms combined.

NPD data = americas.

And at the end Geoff says "On the 360?" and Reggie replies "I do believe so".

of course it will sell better than mw2. Its a better game without a shadow of a doubt.

I see you missed the part where the interviewer says "On the 360?"...

And NPD = America. Reggie = President of Nintendo of America

If sales continue on like this... I wouldn't be surprised if NSMB Wii outsells the combined PS3/X360 MW2.



I am a Gamer... I play games and not consoles. I have a PC and Console on which I game... I like games. End of Story!

NPD data = americas.

The NPD data is required for WW sales too, so obviously either comparison could only happen "after the NPD data comes in"

 

The ending is exactly the reason why it is not "unbelieveably simple", many would say that it was "so it will sell more?..."  "I believe so!" "... on the 360!"
