If this guy was in charge of Sega back in the day, it would explain why they got out of the hardware field.

You should really take my previous advice, before commenting further. Listening to an interview, or reading it is usually necessary to make valid statements about said interview. Your comments continue to prove this point. |
Regardless of whether he was joking or not, it is not something you say to the media publically. If you have a good working relationship with the other company, critizing them behind closed doors is a normal thing to do. (It happens in weak ones too, though that is more indicative of the partnership falling apart soon.) But never, should you speak ill of your partners while you are still actively paired with them. Even when Nintendo and Sony were "partners", they never spoke ill of each other- until the union ended (as Nintendo came out with Phillips).

Ok, so where was he criticizing Nintendo again?
This has flown by me, he talked about his view on Nintendos market and such but I cannot recall off the top of my head anywhere in the interview where he criticized Nintendo, or denigrated them in any way.
Maybe that's why Sega isn't in the console business anymore, where as Nintendo's the industry leader?

There is a certain truth to this ...
A large portion of the reason why Sega was forced out of the console business was because they always focused on trying to fulfill the insatiable desires of the most demanding gamers. Between the Sega CD, Sega 32x, Sega Saturn, and the Sega Dreamcast Sega was heavily focused on producing a product to capture the most demanding of gamers and since these systems did not match the desires of more typical gamers they all saw very limited success. In contrast, the Playstation, PS2, Gameboy, GBA, DS, NES, SNES, and Wii have all been lacking in processing power and a variety of features that are available with the competition.
Had Sega focused more on meeting the demands of the broadest demographic of gamers possible rather than focusing on the demands of the elite few they might still be producing consoles today.

What's so different between them then? |
go buy a wii and take it apart. otherwise shut up with the "two gamecubes" comments
How do they expect Nintendo to buy them when they make comments like this!
Gaming make me feel GOOD!
Sounds about right what he says.
Make games, not war (that goes for ridiculous fanboys)
I may be the next Maelstorm or not, you be the judge http://videogamesgrow.blogspot.com/ hopefully I can be more of an asset than a fanboy to VGC hehe.
This guy should be put to death...
For our own good and for Sega's own good...
Sega could sell crappy old DC ports on Wii (hod 2&3, samba de amigo) or crappy "new games" (sonic, sonic tennis, sonic kart, sonic morron smasher...) for 10€...
80$ may be to break even, but profit?
Not that much.
Is he saying they are maing 120$ on each console now?
