There is a certain truth to this ...
A large portion of the reason why Sega was forced out of the console business was because they always focused on trying to fulfill the insatiable desires of the most demanding gamers. Between the Sega CD, Sega 32x, Sega Saturn, and the Sega Dreamcast Sega was heavily focused on producing a product to capture the most demanding of gamers and since these systems did not match the desires of more typical gamers they all saw very limited success. In contrast, the Playstation, PS2, Gameboy, GBA, DS, NES, SNES, and Wii have all been lacking in processing power and a variety of features that are available with the competition.
Had Sega focused more on meeting the demands of the broadest demographic of gamers possible rather than focusing on the demands of the elite few they might still be producing consoles today.
