As has already been said, very few people hated the motion control, they (we) disliked the games that came with that motion control, for the most part. While it has been used to make some fantastic Wii games, it's also been used as an excuse to create some utter garbage that becomes reasonable successful.

There's no reason to believe this won't happen with the HD consoles, except that HD development costs are higher, so there's more risk.

Also, some people hate Nintendo's success.

There is this stigma that using the Wiimote makes you "move around like am *idiot", but unless the game is intentionally silly (Warioware Smooth Moves) the movement is minimal.

It is those losers that get out of control with their shyt and throw their controllers around that look like idiots.

As for the OP, people didn't hate motion control, they hate[d] the system it is primarily used for. No one said squat about the motion within the Sixaxis. The smart developers, who knew their games might not be intuitive with Wii motion controls, have implemented GC/Classic controls when things got unwieldly. Anyone doubting the hypocrisy behind this whole thing is fooling themselves.

As a PS3 owner who is also, to paraphrase Naughty Dog, a closet Wii owner I don't have a problem with motion controls and will almost certainly invest in Sony's too if they deliver good games and tech.

I should point out I never considered myself to be 'in the closet' about owning a Wii.

Natal interests me a lot, too, although I'm more interested in hooking it up to a PC than using it to play games - perhaps because I don't have a 360, but mostly because I'm actually more convinced by it as an interface than a game playing device. Who knows though, if it really delivers it might be time to finally own all three consoles.

Motion controls do not add anything to gameplay so it is unnecessary for me.

I admit it wasn't scathing social commentary.  It was just me editing the OP and removing the game references and replacing them with girl references.  You see, when I was in school, I didn't like girls.  It was mostly because, at the time, boys were supposed to act like they didn't like girls.  As time progressed, popular opinion changed, and I matured.  Just like with video games.  There are those who didn't like motion control for one reason or another.  Either their opinion evolved, they matured, or motion control grew boobs.  Either way, people who shunned motion control in the past are ready to embrace it now......if it's done right. 

If Natal and the PS3 wand are imprecise gimmicks then expect them to be be criticised like the SIXAXIS controls (in most PS3 games) or the tacked on motion control in several Wii games were.  If they reach a WM+ or better level of interactivity, then why shouldn't gamers look forward to it?  Personally, I want Sony AND Microsoft's take on motion control to succeed.  I'm a fan of games (look at my tags/game library) first.  Companies/platforms second.

So you know they are better control schemes because you have played games using them?
