Forums - Website Topics - I want to know the entire history of VGchartz! =)

you guys are horrible.

I've posted a few times on how this website started. Here is the short version.

ioi (brett) owns the website, and he is the original creator. He wanted a better way to track numbers and started tracking numbers for NeoGaf. There was a fallout because they didn't consider his numbers "official" (or in other words, he wasn't a big company guessing numbers, he was just a single guy guessing numbers )

Anyways, after that, ioi started VGCharts.org, which then existed for a while, and then ioi decided he wanted a .com name, but someone had already bought vgcharts.com, so he switched it to vgchartz.com. since then the website has grown. VGChartz does actually receive sales numbers from a small percentage of the worlds retail market and estimates sales just like NPD/Mediacreate/Famitsu/GFK. VGChartz is very accurate with the hardware numbers, a little less so with the software. Either way, VGChartz is free for all of its data compared to the other companies which only release top 10/50 with or without numbers.

As for the 10k viewers, I can't remember when that was. I'm fairly sure it was before this years E3 when one of our articles hit the front page of Digg.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

I'm pretty sure this is the article that caused it.

@OP:
Once upon a time, in a rainy and foggy land far, far away, there was a princess, a mushroom and a ioi.
The ioi ate the mushroom, smoked the princess and then he saw the LIGHT!

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Would that be the article stating WiiSports becoming the highest selling game of all time?

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Actually, went near 10.9K views twice in the last year. Once in late April, and soon after in early May. There were several stories that made first page Digg within a few days, and no one story did it by itself.

It did go over 10k other times but not enough for a new high score.

Thanks so much!

I think the 10 k came from the day that we ended up on the front page of google or yahopo news (forgot which one) because of the "wii sports best selling ever" news story.
