Forums - Nintendo - Silent Hill: Shattered Memories discussion thread *SPOILERS!*

Not reading the thread at all, just tagging it for when I've finished the game.

My theory is that Cheryl was so traumatized by her father's death that she denied it to a point where a physical manifestation of Harry was created to give her denial some weight. She felt that her life fell apart the minute her father was killed in the car accident and was unable to move on because of that.

So you think most of the events in the game actually happened (outside of Cheryl's head)?

It could be true.  Ever watched Paranoia Agent?

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this, but my ending seems different... and I tried reading up on the endings and none of them seem to match mine... I'd have to play through it again...

Ok so apparently I got the love lost ending... which one is supposed to be the "good" ending again?

Ummm.... the sesion and harry weren't related, harry was a confused spirit looking for cheryl, cheryl was in terapist sesion in the lighthouse, so harry goes, mets her and the spirit shatters, cybil was real and existed there, but she was the one that discovered that harry was the spirit, lisa died for the pills, and dahlia dead was just an alucination

not the highschool girl.  she was the mother.  thats what i took from it.

the whole highschool area... like the phone calls, the photos taking of the girl and principal in the car and others...

Michelle represents Cheryl's mother? I never considered that. What makes you think that?

As to the highschool itself, I'm fairly positive it meant that while she was in high-school she was having an affair with one of her teachers. Two of the three photos are thinly veiled references to that, as is the entire Pigtails line of messages. Speaking of, the Pigtails line was one of the more disturbing messages I got in the game.

I've never even heard of it, to be honest. Is it a movie or TV show?

 That one.

This fits with some of the stuff, but not everything. For instance, why doesn't Doctor Kaufmann ever see Harry when the man bursts into a private therapy session? Also, Cheryl was never in the lighthouse: Lighthouse was just the name Kaufmann picked for his clinic. The place was just a standard office building, albeit with a searchlight on top.

It is an anime series created by Satoshi Kon

Hm, I disagree.

Harry (post car crash) was a figment of Cheryl's imagination, he died in that crash and Cheryl hardly knew him being so young.  The whole journey is in her head that's why the Raw Shock (Rorshach ^^) monsters evolve based on the therapy session.  Perhaps they were trying to keep imaginary Harry away from the Lighthouse Clinic because Cheryl didn't want to face the truth.  Could be the same reason the world freezes when a side character starts hinting Harry is already dead, a defense mechanism of Cheryl's subconscious.

Dahlia is the mother, and Cheryl seems to have painted her in a very negative light, while thinking Harry as a knight in shining armour.  Kaufman at the end tells her that she (her mother) is not the monster Cheryl makes her out to be.

A good theory I heard about the voicemail messages is that they are bits of memory (like hearsay, gossip or news) that stood out to Cheryl, therefore have lingering in her mind.

Since this is an open disscussion thread of SH, I just wish the game manages to reach 100k this week (this post isn't off-topic because it's still a disscussion about the game)

This game selling 250K LTD should ensure a profit for Konami and Climax

This is one of the aspects of the game that confused me. Throughout it (specially towards the end), Dahlia is suggested as the mother. She says shes married to Harry, she even calls Cheryl her daughter, but when Harry is in her apartment the woman with blonde hair is her mother. Also, an ending shows Harry and the blonde woman splitting up, with Cheryl taping it all. Then theres the fact that when Dahlia is young, she says she hardly knows Cheryl. So in this imaginary world, Dahlia is Cheryls stepmother.

Ill piggyback what most here are saying that Harry isnt real, and is only in Cheryls imagination. That would make all the other characters imaginary as well.
