Never mind PS3 v 360 or GC v XBOX lets go back to the days when it really mattered....... the days when our parents would only buy us one console, lol.

Where i grew up you were either a Sega or Nintendo boy, i've included the TurboGrafx-16 and Neo Geo (wikipedia class it as a 4th gen console) for those lucky enough to have had them in their region.

To spice things up here's a few adverts from yesteryear to resurface those memories:

feel free to ad more old adverts!

I was a snes man although like everyone else played the rival system at a friends thoughout the years and loved them both.

Whats was your favourite?

SNES was great. I never did the Neo Geo and didn't like the TurboGrafx-16 that much because it seemed more like a NES without the big games. Though, Sega was cool and I still have a couple.

Neo Geo hands down. What alot of people seem to forget is the fact that Neo Geo was way ahead of its time. Yea SNES was a good system but Neo Geo was a powerhouse as the only console that offered true arcade graphics and gameplay. The Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, King of Fighters, Bust -a-Move, Sengoku series were all huge with out of this world gameplay. Lets not even start with Metal Slug. Neo Geo's failure was due to the super high price point at the time. Didn't it cost about as much as the PS3 did at launch? SNES was simply established because of the nintendo brand, but far inferior to Neo Geo. Genesis had several unappreciated gems like Kid Chameleon (which I think is better than any Mario except for my favorite Mario which was 3 in which case I declare a tie).
SNES seemed to have a graphical edge over the Genesis when you compare games like MK2 on both systems for example. Turbo Graphix 16 had a gem in Bonk which was massively underappreciated. I feel SNES fed off its established brand popularity as opposed to the far superior games Neo Geo had. In fact Nintendo's dominance was only crushed with Sony's 2 systems which is unprecedented and amazing when you consider how well established Nintendo became. Looking at things objectively Neo Geo was the superior system plagued by being the new kid in the market with a super high price point.

I chose the Sega Genesis, because it was the console that I started to really comprehend console gaming upon (not my first though: my first was actually an Atari 2600 that my dad bought back in California years before he discovered PC gaming, and never bought me a console ever again *sobs*, in fact, he bought me a Genesis a good while before he discovered that a personal computer could do more than help him join Bulletin Board Systems and do work-related stuff *stops sobbing*)... It has so many memories for me just watching other people play it, like the time my dad got all the Chaos Emeralds in Sonic the Hedgehog (the Genesis version, obviously, not the cruddy Master System version, the who-gives-a-shit Game Gear version, or the epically terrible X360 and PS3 versions released more recently), the time my uncle Steve beat Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (again, the Genesis version), and, when I finally got the nerve to pick up the controller (hey, I was 9, and couldn't control my Schizophrenia; heck, they didn't even diagnose me as full-on Schizophrenic until I was a teenager; up until that point I was officially diagnosed with "Schizo-typo Disorder"), the time I beat Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (unfortunately without collecting any of the Chaos Emeralds, so I got the "suckish" ending on the screen after the credits, you know, the one where Dr. Egg- oops, Robotnik and Knuckles were passing the Chaos Emeralds between themselves in a self-satisfied manner, reminding you that they got the last laugh in that particular endeavor). Many memories...

Plus, the Genesis version of Street Fighter 2 was superior to any fighting game on the home console market at that time, save possibly for Fatal Fury 2 on the Neo Geo, and the Genesis and its version of the game were far cheaper than they were at the time...
