Forums - Gaming Discussion - How strong is your nostalgia?

Well, I know my nostalgia is strong. The best case of where I can say my favorite isn't the best is in the Final Fantasy line. My favorite is 5, though 6 is a much better game. But, for the most part, it's just the difference in how many newer games are made that makes me want the older games more. And I keep buying them, too...

I wouldn't say nostalgia blinds me rather than my preferred enjoyment of 2D over 3D in some genres. I prefer 2D platformers to 3D platformers. I love the 2D action/adventure games (zelda/metroid type games)

I think NSMBWii is 100% better than Galaxy. Sure, Galaxy brought in new gameplay mechanics (which were a lot of fun) and had a "story" (which was a joke), but 2D marios are generally better than 3D mario.

However, KZ2, CoD:MW, Halo are all better than the awful goldeneye, which aged worse than anything I've tried to play recently. I guess the only thing that makes goldeneye good anymore is the great local multiplayer, which a lot of newer games lack.

Goldeneye's graphics have aged terribly, along with all other early 3D games, but I would take Goldeneye or Perfect Dark's gameplay over modern shooters any day.

^ His nostalgia is over 9000!!!!! (see, it only works if someone says it about you :P )

Anyway, I often argue with people who make top 15 games of all time and the such. They mix together the best games upon release with the best games by todays standards. For example:

Super Mario 3 was better compared to the competition at time of release
- compared to -
Super Mario Galaxy is a better designed game.

When people mix the two together in their ## games of all time list, it doesn't make any sense.

Another example:
LOZ: OOT was an amazing and revolutionary game for it's time
LOZ: TP is a better designed game, as it builds upon OOT
