Ugh, really wish PS3 would just pass 360 already and take its prized position of 2nd place so I can stop hearing about it...

It won't happen.  Every time it looks like Sony is about to catch up (eg. shamelessly copying Xbox Live's features) Microsoft does something to separate them again.  Next year it will be Halo Reach and Natal's launch which will be flooded with advertising dollars.  The sales differences we're seeing now that are making some Sony fanboys puff out their chests in pride will look laughable when Natal launches and the 360 starts outselling the PS3 by such margins that even the blindest fanboys will see that the race is over.

You came back? Joy.

Anyway, how did they shamelessly copy Live's features? You mean like, internet browser? Avatars? Home? Not having to pay for online gaming? Dynamic themes?...

And you are yet another person who seems to think Sony are just gonna let the current momentum slip away from them. Amusing.

I'm not going to say whether or not the PS3 will pass the 360(whether or not it does is irrelevant as whoever ends up in 2nd place will be a far distant second and the gap between second and third will be negligible, but Halo Reach and Natal aren't going to do much for hardware sales.

At the most, Halo: Reach will boost hardware sales for a few weeks, and then things will return to normal. That's basic what happened with GTA:IV, and that was the most-anticipated and most-hyped game of the generation, so why would Halo: Reach do any better? There's also the fact that the game appeals most to the 360's core fanbase(core and hardcore gamers), so most people who are going to buy it probably already have a 360.

As far as Natal goes, when has an add-on that was released in the middle of a generation ever had a serious impact on hardware sales? Power-glove, Eye-Toy, Sega 32X, Sega CD? It's also funny that you berate Sony for "shameless copying" of Xbox Live and then turn right around hail Natal as the second coming of Christ.

Even at 'only' 5 million ahead, that's still a comfortable cushion for next year.

Yes you said it, for next year. But not much longer if MS cant turn around the trend and manage to sell more consoles after it has peaked already and in the fifth year (i think only DS has achieved this)

Natal can be a decent success but 2010 will be the first full year for the PS3 with a 299 price and it has also motion controls. And I am confident we will see a 50 Dollar Pricecut in fall. So even if Natal will be a decent success it wont be enough. The PS3 already has sold more in 2009 then the Xbox in 2008 and until september the PS3 had horrible sales. 2010 will be probably the peak year of PS3. MS has good software too but has it software which will move more systems then PS3 ? Natal has not just to sell well, it has to make up for the deficit until Natal and it has not only to outsell their own 2008 peak which would be massive but also the 2009 year of the PS3 and most likely even the 2010 Ps3s year. And all this in its fifth year. It would be an achievment of historical magnitude in the videogame industry.

Natal has to be the biggest thing we have seen until the Wii to satisfy the expectations of some. I dont say it cant happen i just cant believe it, I will know it after I actually saw it or played with Natal.

Jumped the gun a bit there.

Woah there cowboy!

I haven't seen such a fanboyish statement in a loooong time! Since I own a slim now I should probably have a go at you:

- "Every time it looks like Sony is about to catch up (eg. shamelessly copying Xbox Live's features) Microsoft does something to separate them again"

WELL AT LEAST WE DON'T HAVE TO PAY FOR IT.

- "Next year it will be Halo Reach and Natal's launch which will be flooded with advertising dollars"

Reach will be big, but the Halo franchise has lost a lot over the years. Natal hasn't proved itself with good games yet, and Sony's also got a motion controller that will be *ahem* "flooded with advertising dollars" Oh, and how many people that are 'into' Halo don't already own a 360?

- "The sales differences we're seeing now that are making some Sony fanboys puff out their chests in pride" Good God man! Talk about being bitter!

- "when Natal launches and the 360 starts outselling the PS3 by such margins that even the blindest fanboys will see that the race is over." Since the Slim launched the PS3 has outsold te 360 by such margins that even the blindest fanboys can see the race is over.

There.

Oh, and if I were to stoop down to your level then I could mention that a significant % of 360's sold are due to the thing breaking down and the owner rebuying. I know of many such cases.

Sigh, how many times must this nonsense be repeated.  NATAL is not an ADDON.  MS considers it a console relaunch.  Also, NATAL isn't copying anything, it is reinventing the UI.

Lol you can't count. It's closer to 6 than 5 according to VG Chartz. Still end of year should be closer to 5 if things go well.

Sony still has some ace's on it sleeves or have you forgotten that? This feign ignorance is really laughable, am not saying who will end up 2nd place, cause in the end I know Sony is going to shed out quality games which will make my purchase even more satisfying.

The only game I may buy for the 360 next year is probably Mass Effect 2.... only.

I think this is the same response in how if Sony was ever going to gain this position this year.

I don't give a damn what Microsoft calls it, it's an add-on. It's the same console with a different control scheme, nothing more, nothing less. Calling it a "console relaunch" is just MS trying to hype it up as something more than it is.

Reinventing the GUI? Please. What are they reinventing here, exactly?

Really, had Nintendo released the Wii-mote for the Gamecube in 2004 and called it a console relaunch, would it have made any kind of a damn difference?
