Forums - Sales Discussion - Is It Time To Start Believing in Sony ?

Start believing what? That Sony has found a way to actually outsell the Xbox 360 while they continue to lose money? I'm not so sure that is something we should really start congratulating Sony for. What happens next year when Microsoft counters and does their sprint? Will Sony cut price again and continue with their losses?

Has Sony really done anything to show us that they can continue to compete with competitors that have less expensive hardware? It's obvious that Sony loses when it comes to the game of profit margins and that it remains to be seen how much more Sony is willing to lose before we start seeing cracks in their armor.

You're not seeing the big picture here. Try harder.

Sony and PlayStation are a force to be reckoned with.

You should never underestimate a big corporation as they are the most likely to do something extraordinary.

Odd. Future. Wolf. Gang. Kill. Em. All. OFWGKTA Don't give a fuck!

Fuck Steve Harvey. FREE EARL!

Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be the GREATEST game EVER made!!!

I'd take a bullet for Square-Enix!

If by 'believing' in the PS3 you mean backing it because its started to sell better and because people are hyping it, then by all means, 'believe' in it all you want.

I offer a counter-proposal. 'Believe' in the console you 'believe' has good games. And by it.

Yes, Sony has made a massive swing this year. But if you look at the core reasons for it, I think you'll realize its not because the system had an increase in sales or because some people on forums started hyping it. Its because the system got more games and was managed better. The core fundamentals of what makes any console succeed. So if you want to believe in Sony, go for it. I'm going to owe my allegiance into what I always have, into the games a console gets. No matter the console (or Handheld or other platform) its on.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

On this website there was alway a lot of belief in Sony. And to be honest a major price cut combined with a redesign definately was going to have a huge impact on its sales (combined with release of FF XIII) so i dont really think that they defied the odds or did something amazing.

But they did well

Sony sure won me over in these last few months. In fact, when someone asks whether to get 360 or PS3 (and many do ask), I almost always recommend PS3. WD Sony.

I find it funny that Crazzyman, the most ridiculed member in here, has been more precise in his predictions than the most worshiped member (you all know who). I'll readily admit that I never believed the PS3 could move a million units in one week or beat the 360 in NA on Black Friday but I'm glad to be proven wrong in this instance.

On topic; for once it seems my hardware predictions are going to be pretty damn good! Except overshooting Wii, DS and PSP a fair bit, still beats the past ones...

what did Crazzyman actually predicted?

I don't remember exactly, but it was far fetched, especially back then. He's still quite a bit off in most of it, or even a whole lot off but remains closer to reality than Vgchartz own Malstrom. And that should be a wake up call to most of us (yes, I snickered at Crazzyman myself quite a few times but now the joke's on me). However, I'd also like to point out that I've always maintained that the other guy was waaaaay off in his lofty predictions (60 million Wii's by end of 2008, lifetime sales of 250-500 million etc.) as well.

I think Crazzyman [ZorroX] was the first to predict a 1Mill week after the slim during Xmas and also was extremely accurate for his prediction of the slim launch.

He was also the one that said Uncharted 2 would do 2.35M before years end. Alot of people either laughed or said it would be lucky to scrape in 1M.

It's worth noting he also predicted FF13 first week sales to be 1,450,000... Which is basicly right inline with what Famitsu(Or MC, i forget) had it as.

He also predicted PS3 will do 245K in japan in FFXIII week....

I was right even if I wanted to be wrong...

I think Sony has done a good job of bringing the ps3 back to a product that will eventually become profitable. For a couple of years it was looking like it may not make it, but cost cutting and restructuring has worked well. I'm still anticipating a tough 2010 for Sony, at least in comparrison to the wii and 360 as both companies are better positioned with price cuts and new features, like natal. But I don't see Sony sales being down yoy but I don't see them being up either, mainly flat.
