Do you think Super Smash Bros Brawl is the game of the generation because it has a level editor |
What kind of question is that? They are two completely different games, there are so many possibilities to make different levels in a platformer like Mario. All you do in SSB is fight, why the smartass remark?
@Rollstoppable, I haven't played the game and those are fighting words on the forum :P.
@impur1ty, I know, I posted one about a month ago.
I can't believe that people will still compare LBP to Mario. LBP is a pretty good game for what it is, but Mario is just a whole other level. Mario is infinitely better. Only Sony fanboys will dispute that.

The simplest explanation is that NSMBWii is the better platformer right out of the box. LBP has a level editor to make up for this, but that is not something for the everyday casual user really. Plus those levels can be epicly good, or epicly bad. Mario levels are universally done by the guys who have defined the genre.
Not to say that LBP is a bad game mind you. I don't really have any first hand experience with it. This is just logical deduction based on the features that are most heavily promoted with each game. Anyone who expected the two to sell equally just didn't understand the market I would guess. Both were an amazing success though.

Well generally it is strong sony fans who say it from what I have noticed. The same group that might label Metal Gear Solid 4 as the best ever. What he said isn't necessarily incorrect, and what you said isn't either.

LBP has some pretty great custom levels but of those I've played (I played quite a few) none of them really compare to, say, 8-1
But that's not a fair comparison since that's one of the best levels ever

Well I think you missed his point. He's not trying to say LBP is better or that Mario is better. Essentially saying "different strokes for different folks". I mean sure there are somethings wew can say that are definite in things like this but for the most part people are going to have subjective views on quality and comparisons. Why not just let them have it? I personally think Mario is one of the best platformers ever if not the best and that LBP platforming mechanics don't stand up to it but it does have other interesting and amazing features. Instead of saying one is better than the other or making bold statements that we would need more analytical thought and discussion to determine, why not agree to disagree and accept them as different but both good gaming experiences. I think that's what he was trying to say in less wordy fashion.
But I do agree with what you are saying that there are people who can be generalized to saying certain things and you can deduce it down to a science but that's exactly what CGI is talking against as well.

8-1 was really well done. Hell all of world 8 was some of the best platforming I have experienced. 9-7 is still the best level in any platformer ever. I can't think of one that comes close really.
