Forums - Sales - User base is not a factor for big franchises.

Just sayin, coz it seems obvious.. so for games like Halo, Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, and Gran Turismo, don't ever bring up the user base argument. Since we now have data on Final Fantasy 13 selling to over 1/3 of the user base, Gran Turismo, being an even bigger franchise than Final Fantasy, will most likely come up with even more (providing that the game is as good as it seems to be).

Anyway, just sayin.. coz I read too often that "oooo the user base of xxx console is too small, so the game's sales will be small too". That may be right for some games, but for big franchises, whatever the user base the games will still fly off the shelves.

You are correct, but was a thread really needed though? :P

Odd. Future. Wolf. Gang. Kill. Em. All. OFWGKTA Don't give a fuck!

Fuck Steve Harvey. FREE EARL!

Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be the GREATEST game EVER made!!!

I'd take a bullet for Square-Enix!

not really, but just sayin..

just sayin, yknow?

Yea, I get ya. I found it astonishing how many people were predicting FF XIII to sell less than a million in a week in Japan. They don't understand how powerful the Final Fantasy Brand is, especially in Japan.

Gran Turismo isn't a bigger franchise than Final Fantasy

Er, no. Look at how Nintendo's big sequels (Mario, Zelda, Mario Kart, Smash Bros) have performed on GC vs Wii. A larger end userbase actually impacts larger series the most.

If you want a good comparison with GT, look at how Mingol has toppled in Japan this gen. It used to sell right in line with GT (1m+), now it's selling 400-500k on PS3/PSP.

Some franchises do hold better, particularly if they have more dedicated audiences. I think MGS and FF are good examples of that. But both MGS4 and FFXIII would've each sold well better if PS3 had the sort of userbase it's predecessors could boast about...

But it... is a factor.

The big franchises can be really limited by userbase. There's a maximum attach rate of maybe 50% that has pretty much never been passed by any game, so games like the top selling Wii titles, or even Halo 3 would have a tough time on the PS3. These games can sell only so many consoles on their own.

It's no coincidence that DQ's best selling game ever is on the DS, the best selling console/handheld in Japan. As for Gran Turismo 5, it isn't going to pass FFXIII, not in Japan anyway. It'll dominate in the Others region.

i agree but
FF is bigger than GT.

gt is bigger than ff.

the average gt sells 10 million.

the average ff sells 6-7 million.
