I guess we just see things differently. I see NSMBW as a slightly better seller than the likes of SSBB and SMG while you guys see it as another wii fit/MKwii in the making. I never said NSMBW wont have legs...just not the huge legs you are expecting and yes, nostalgia does have a lot to do with it. I dont know how you can even deny this. Well, regarding the sales, only time will tell who is right. |
First, please define "slightly better".
NSMBW is likely to sell 9 mil WW by the end of this year which is about what SSBB and SMB sell after 20 months and more than 2 years respectively. And yet you think NSMBW would only sell slightly better than either title. Even if NSMBW goes on sell only 50% more than what it sells in the first 5 weeks, it would be at around 13.5 mil and I'm not sure if I would call it only "slightly better".
Also, SSBB sold about 5 mil in the first 5 weeks of release and it's currently at 8.98 mil which is about 80% of first 5 week sales. SMB sold about 4.35 mil after first 9 weeks (this is to include the holiday boost) and it's currently at 8.29 mil which is about 90% of first 9 weeks sales. Even if NSMBW doesn't perform like Wii Fit or MKWii but rather like SSBB or SMG, the base line would be 16.2 mil (using SSBB % since it's the lower) which I would't call "slightly better" either. If we are only talking about absolute units instead of percentage, NSMBW would sell at least 4 mil more after its first 5 weeks if it performs like SSBB or SMG and it would stand at 13 mil. Again I am not sure if I would call it only "slightly better".
MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.
