Actually according to ioi more like 150k bundles sold. Didn't clarify whether it sold out or not though.

I read a lot of comments on this thread and I can see how a lot of people are haters and fans of FF. So to both haters and fan here is the truth:
1) FF XIII first week is less than the previous FF games (starting from VII)
2) Records has shown that FF games don't have great legs, but with around 900,000 preorders the game managed to have a 600,000 copies increase and that is the best a FF game has done, so probably it will show legs.
3)The best selling game on the PS3 in Japan 5 days ago was MGS 4 with 720,000 copies. FF XIII in just 3 days double that amount (JUST 3 DAYS, more than double).
4) This week was the biggest week ever for the PS3 HW in Japan
5) Even Famitsu predictions arse was kicked in only 3 days
6) Not going to talk about the user base factor because I think that most people in Japan buys a PS3 because of FF and FF XIII is also my reason for buying a PS3

No matter what you say, whatever comparison you would like to make, the game is a SUCCESS, a big SUCCESS

it says NSMB Wii sold 1.4m in Japan,FF 13 sold 1.5 in its first week


NSMB Wii sales do not yet include the FF XIII release week. With those, its sales should be at least 1.7 million.

So FF XII sold more in its first week than NSMBW sold in first 3 (or 4?) weeks and it was launched on a console with  2 times smaller userbase. Its gonna outsell NSMBW

I'm wondering when and how this is gonna happen when it can't outsell NSMBW in the month it's released. Can you explain?

We know FFXIII is a success but some people just don't see it as big as a success as you see it. They provided the reason why they don't think it's as big a success as others make it out to be and that doesn't automatically make them "haters".



MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

I agree with all this pretty much, but 3 clarifications...

1) We don't know exact preorder figures, for FFXIII or any of the previous series for comparison.

2) It was actually 4 days of sales (Thursday through Sunday).

3) Famitsu predictions are for shipments, and those were totally shattered on day one (1.8m).

 

...I do expect better 2n3/3rd week legs for FFXIII due to the holidays though.  At least versus FFX/XII.

It's a limited bundle, 200k bundle as rumored would be bigger than expected, it will not sell tons thanks to the bundle, it is more important for PS3 than for the game...Anyway this week NSMBW sold over 500k, so it's 400k over FFXIII yet, and considering ALL the FF's legs in the best case FFXIII 2nd week will not match NSMBW 4th week.

The 200k bundle rumor was supposedly bogus btw.  We don't have an exact figures, but the wizards at GAF figured it's closer to 100k and closer to sold out.

Exactly, usually the bundles are less than 100k, and usually in Japan they all sell out in a few weeks...and no one can really expect better legs for FF XIII than for NSMBW, especially since NSMBW actually increased in its third week while quite every FF sold over 70% LTD in its first week

If it were a normal week 200k or so would make sense, but given the timing I expect another surprise for some.

dude u need  stop being arrogant which i see in most of ur posts on this forum, i lurk a lot so i can see these things, ff13 will be the lowest selling ff since ff4, ppl in japan are hating it, go to neogaf and see how there are reports of mass returns of the game after only playing 10 hours of it. its being called the worst ff and has bad word of mouth, week 2 will be below 100k. we are only doin this to make your expectations come in line with reality, we dont hate the game man

What are people exactly not liking? Maybe they westernized the game so much that the Japanese aren't recognizing it anymore.

And there is near rule that JRPG first 5 hours are terrible, after that they start to be good or stay terrible.

Are you talking about Japan only? Because NSMB Wii looks like it'll be the 2nd best selling home console game ever, only behind the original Super Mario Bros. It'll outsell all the PS2 Final Fantasy's by the end of the month.

If you're talking about worldwide, that's even worse(sorry, just as bad). As early as January, NSMB Wii will have sales FF13 can't reach (over 10 million).

edit: While ioi has been wrong before, he's actually got some logic behind his predictions. "FF13 will sell more than NSMBW" has none, and its chance of happening is zilch.
