New Super Mario Bros. Wii has sold 1.9m in 3 weeks but is what is known as a long-term seller. It should hit 4m with ease and could top out at over 5m.

Final Fantasy XIII has sold 1.5m in the first week but what is known as a short-term seller or "frontloaded". Typically, FF games sell around 75% of their total in week one, suggesting FF XIII is good for about 2m in total (and maybe another 200-300k with international releases and budget releases).

A quick example of this difference:

http://vgchartz.com/swlaunch.php?reg1=Japan&game1=New+Super+Mario+Bros.+-+DS[1582]&reg2=Japan&game2=Final+Fantasy+VIII+-+PS[758]&weeks=100

There is no way on earth that FFXIII will outsell NSMB Wii in Japan or even come anywhere close.

My PREDICTION is that at the end of this gen, FF13 will sell more than NSMBW. I might be wrong and i might be right. There is no need to say im a joke account because of my prediction. You were wrong before too.

Are you talking about Japan only? Because NSMB Wii looks like it'll be the 2nd best selling home console game ever, only behind the original Super Mario Bros. It'll outsell all the PS2 Final Fantasy's by the end of the month.

If you're talking about worldwide, that's even worse(sorry, just as bad). As early as January, NSMB Wii will have sales FF13 can't reach (over 10 million).

edit: While ioi has been wrong before, he's actually got some logic behind his predictions. "FF13 will sell more than NSMBW" has none, and its chance of happening is zilch.
