They say that about every edition of every major Japan centric game. They said it about Monster Hunter on PSP (there were even ads here with "the game that's taken Japan by storm").

 

Maybe they'll manage it, but it's not a unique ambition/promise.

I think it'll do 195-230k second week. I'd go lower, but I think the holiday will help balance it out.

I predict 286k units for the 2nd week.

Avg. 1st week is 1.9 Mio. / 7 times
Avg. 2nd week is 260k / 6 times

That would be the amount of 13.7% units sold in the 2nd week compared to the 1st. Since it is holiday / x-mas season I guess 10 - 15% more units compared to the avg. might be possible.

We will see but I am quite optimistic about those figures as long as the reviews dont get worse.

Darth is on vacation, if I've read the threads right...he wouldnt lose this oportunity....

 

OT: Great sales, for PS3 and FFXIII! We really did underestimate FFXIII on this current economic climate and all, and so, many are eating crow all over the world. Untill Mediacreate numbers are in(in wich I hope to see those numbers a bit higher), IMO, FFXIII is a success to the franchise and to PS3 as a whole. Lets just hope its fragile legs can have some extra impulse because of the hollyday season (wich our beloved friends the japanese people) sees more of a chance to buy and sell a lot more than normal....heheheh

Crazily enough, Darth ended up being... right?

Jarrod is a very reasonable poster and The Source obviously makes some incredibly accurate predictions.  They're also clearly people who consider all the factors, and think a lot about these things.  This shows pretty clearly how FFXIII has performed versus the expectations of those on the site.


It's also worth noting that Famitsu expected 1 million to 1.5 million LIFETIME for FFXIII.  The game has just beaten the lifetime expectations of Japan's main market predictor in its first week.

And in a way I have to agree with the "system seller" thing on the surface. While FF XIII added maybe 150k new PS3s this week, the effect will be short-lived.

On the other hand though, maybe 1m PS3s have been sold in the last couple of years to Final Fantasy fans in anticipation for FF XIII so it definitely is a system seller, just that the sales pattern is different to many other games and harder to spot immediately in that it sold systems prior to release and in the first week of release, not for months afterwards (like NSMB Wii will, or like Brain Training etc did)...

Being released on the big week of the year would also affect the pattern... Am i right? As it would be hard to measure what was holiday boost, and what was game boost?

What are your lifetime predictions for FF?

Oh, and have you boosted those PS3 numbers north of 1 Million yet?
