Final Fantasy 13 just gave PS3 a what... 300% increase in sales for the week?

That is a system seller, no matter how much you try to spin it.

Be it for a single week, or a month, or a year.

That's fine, if you want to call it a system seller you're perfectly entitled to. We'll just have to use a different word when we're talking about games that carry a console's momentum forward in a very strong way.

A system seller is a system seller. Trying to marginalize it doesn't change what has actually happened.

Exactly

Demotruk - So what is that amount of games a game has to help a system for it to be a system seller in the "usual" sense.

And how many people specifically bought a DS for Brain Training? As in "I have to go buy A DS Right now so I can play Brain Training!"

There is no specific number in the same way there's no specific number required for a game to be described as "big". But it is an identifiable phenomenon. It happened with Monster Hunter for the PSP. Would anyone disagree with the idea that Monster Hunter was a different sort of phenomenon for PSP than FFXIII has been so far for PS3? So far, FFXIII is more like a much bigger Monster Hunter Tri, which would qualify as a "system seller" in the literal sense. I'm not excluding the possibility of FFXIII ending up a killer app which is why I said "not yet", though I don't see it happening.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

PS3 userbase in Japan has just been expanded by 6.25% in one week.

Has this ever happened in a console's third year?

And besides that, it's not from the effects of a pricecut or redesign.  It's from the effects of one game.

How can you even think to compare the two?  FF13 has been out for less than a week....I don't understand what you wanted it to do in this one week that other games apparently have done in that amount of time.  It seems to me you're penalizing FFXIII simply for only being out for 6 days...

@epic: It's actually only four days of sales that are being reported, I believe.

So far? Yes, go on, compare this one week to the many that Monster Hunter has been out for PSP. /facepalm

Obviously. Hence "not yet". Have you been following the conversation?

Thats even worse!  How could we ever call something a system seller that's only been out 4 days!

It seems we're criticising the amount of time it has been out instead of how much it has sold.

@Alic, this shows you how much potential the PS3 has left. Trust me next year will be even better for PS3.
