Forums - Sales Discussion - PS3 HW - 245k and FFXIII - 1.5M

so can we really call FFXIII a system seller? I was honestly expecting more from Japan with FFXIII.

I know the bundled version would of sold out but that would go to crazy fans, which some would already own PS3s.

So being that it is Christmas and crazy FF fans. how many actual new people got a PS3? 100K-150K?

so your argument is that 100-150 thousand people got a second PS3 because it's pretty?  Based off nothing but numbers you pulled from where the sun don't shine?  Does that not sound like ridiculous logic to you?

In the literal sense, yes, it clearly sold some systems. In the 'killer-app' sense, not yet.

some ppl cant accept a bit of a success for PS3.. i think many ppl thought that even half of the sale for Slim was to old customers.. :$ i think we can than say for each bundle that x% sold to old die hard fans like MGS4, DMC4, WKC n many other.. in the end i wander if there r even 2 million unique PS3 owners..

and this means FFXIII sold to almost 75% of the unique PS3 owners.. :P that is awesome..

Well, tell me, how many games this gen cause such an increase, in ONE region?

This gen? Lots of DS games did in Japan. Some Wii games did too. In the US, Halo 3 among others. In Europe, Brain Training among others.

Well, I'm talking consoles, so that eliminates the DS in my equation.

So, a decent amount, and we can add Final Fantasy XIII to the list.

Er, why? On both counts.

If that's all it takes to be considered a "killer app", which is the particular meaning of the phrase "system seller" which carries weight, then the phrase has lost its meaning.

That's not to undermine what it has achieved in a week, 250k is a stunning number, but it makes FFXIII a "system seller" only in the literal sense, which is not it's usual sense.

Final Fantasy 13 just gave PS3 a what... 300% increase in sales for the week?

That is a system seller, no matter how much you try to spin it.

Be it for a single week, or a month, or a year.

My God, agreed 1,000,000%.

1,500,000%  :)

pretty sad, after the game hit the top end or exceeded almost everyone's predictions on the site.

Demotruk - So what is that amount of games a game has to help a system for it to be a system seller in the "usual" sense.

And how many people specifically bought a DS for Brain Training? As in "I have to go buy A DS Right now so I can play Brain Training!"

That's fine, if you want to call it a system seller you're perfectly entitled to. We'll just have to use a different word when we're talking about games that carry a console's momentum forward in a very strong way.
