Boutros: It's also slightly insane, considering twenty seconds of gameplay movies were enough to make it clear to me the combat is quite different from FFX.

That is disappointing though considering FFX had the best combat system in any JRPGs (imo).

Yeah, but it's nothing you didn't know already, unless you've never watched a FFXIII gameplay video.  I liked FFX too, though.  And I was surprised the turn based combat (which was very unusual for a Final Fantasy game) worked as well as it did.

I actually didn't watch any videos lol (I don't want to be spoiled)

So I pretty much know nothing about the game but I'm still really hyped for it.

*spoiler* it's not FFX.  :P

That said, it looks a lot more like X then XII, as even the people dissing it on forums seem to agree.  So that's already something I'm looking forward to.

Here is my summarization of people's hatred
-too linear (really all FFs are linear, they just have world maps)
-party leader dies, you lose
-no towns (which there are)
-lame battle system (lolwut?)
-no levels, crystarium sucks
-only 6 summons
-crappy monster hunts for sidequests

Most of these are false or actually BETTER! I'm just astoundingly shocked at how someone could hype a game for 4 years (almost) then when ONE THING isn't how they expected they hate it! How the fuck do people like that even enjoy video games? I can't even comprehend this amount of stupidity.I think what disappoints me the most is there are people on there actually listening to these idiots. They are accepting their opinions as facts and they aren't going to buy the game now!

BUY THE GAME and see it for yourself.

I think the whole problemis HYPING the game for 4 years. That's a lot of time to build expectations. It's impossible to live up to some of the expectations of the super fans who already have an idea of the game in their heads. But this isn't really related to FF13 it's any game that people hype...

I haven't read the disscusion in this thread, but so far FF12's user reviews seem more negative in comparison.

FF games in general are rated this way in Japan. I am suprised Japanese gamers would complain about long cutscenes and linearity. Especially when FFX, arguably the most linear game in the series, is considered the best FF game there. Japanese are suppose to like lengthy cutscenes and linearity. Why is it that stuff like Uncharted 2, various FPS, etc. get away with linearity yet when FF does it, it gets slammed for it?

Because the game's an RPG and RPGs are expected to have open large worlds with a lot town, sidequests, etc. I guess.

That's wester RPG's you talking about mate, JRPG are always linear because they have a controlled story, there may be an odd game or two which try to be open world or give the impression but unlike wester RPG, JRPG are fairly linear.

I have to say though, that I smell allot of Ninetnedo trolls here, pitty the mods won't do anything about it cuz their to busy with their hands down the pants fapping off to there fellow fanboys.

What about games like DQ, Pokemon, or Tales? All are pretty open and not always linear and there's tons of stuff to do and various palces to go even early on.

Also, nobody in this thread is a Nintendo fanboy...but you probably don't know most of the users anyway so don't single a group out.

FFVIII, X, X-2 are rated like that as well.  Only VI, VII, and IX seem to be overwhellingly positive.  I don't trust those reviews since they panned DQIX just because of one character.  We are talking about the same country where Rinoa is a pop culture icon.

Guys it's a HUGE game, of course many people won't like it.

PLUS it's the internet. Nuff said

There's no shame in it, Soriku. Be true to yourself...

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

So who here is a Nintendo fanboy? If you say me I'll just ignore you.

You should have ignored him from the beginning Soriku.

Yeah, right now there is a lot of bitching on the GameFAQs FF13 forum.

There are the people that say they have played the game and hate it's linearity and lack of towns. But while they may have played the whole game, I doubt they did it without expecting everything to come their way.

You need an open and positive mind to adjust to a new FF game. If you can manage to do just that, you may find any FF game you play to become one of your favorite games of all time.

Just play the game as it is and get the most out of it.

Hell, I do this all the time with any game that I'm starting to get tired of. Certain games just offer different kinds of entertainment.

The difference is that I have gotten the most out of this technique with FF games. That doesn't mean I'm trying too hard to like the FF series by any means. It just means I look for the good in any game and disregard any negative parts.

This will only take a moment of your time. *steals your watch*
