There should be a relax-off mode, where players compete to see who can lower their heart rate the most. The first person to fall asleep or pass out wins.

Or the first person to not care about winning or losing either way.

The Vitality Sensor can determine that? Impressive.

Well you're aprehensive during the game, because you want to win. Stop caring, and the aprehension goes down.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

I already don't care about this game, and as a result I feel really relaxed.

This is a great game.

OT: does it say anywhere that the game was actually picked up? From what I read above, it could be canceled, right?

To clarify, it doesn't say a game called WiiRelax by Nintendo is coming out, it says Nintendo trademarked the title "WiiRelax" in PAL territories. It could mean that Nintendo simply doesn't want any third parties developing titles consisting of "Wii_____".

what a weird piece of software... way weirder than WiiFit. i can't imagine what use this might have to someone.

Really? Because I see a successful stress-reducing game to be an even bigger hit than a fitness game. I feel comfortable saying that the majority of adults in the Western world (at least) come home desperately needing to unwind. Nintendo is going to make mad bank.

Fixed that for you

Speaking seriously, more seriously

When I was young, I thought most adults were kind of like this:

When in truth, they are more like this:

So yes, I agree, Nintendo is probably on to somehting and other companies are probably even now rushing to somehow do this before they do

The only difference between those two pics is the second person is more honest.  The first guy looks like he's about a second away from snapping.

I'm very interested to see what form this 'game' takes but it certainly has the potential to be huge.  My mate was just telling me the other day that his train was delayed for the third time in a week due to suicide on his rail line in Tokyo.  Not that I'm suggesting we should be looking to a game to help with problems at that end of the spectrum but certainly alot of people do need all the help they can get in learning how to unwind and chill out after work/study etc.

"Wii" is a trademark, so it's already protected. That's why you have third party games like "We Ski", when "Wii Ski" would have better brand power.

Edit: They do seem to allow third parties permission to use the Wii trademark, but they haven't let anyone put it in the "Wii ___" form.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Actually I think the trademark they have is for "Wii____" games, with no space in between the words. However, they could make the case that a space in between the words does not circumvent the patent, and therefore, the company would have to change the name of the game.

Perhaps, but Nintendo could also simply decline to grant a license to a game whose name they feel is using their brand innappropriately. Admittedly, if someone were to release the game on another format they'd need to trademark all "Wii___" derivatives (WiiRelax, only on XBox 360!) .

ok, it feels like it'll be a game that monitors your heart beat, and perhaps the aim of the game is to relax to the point of going to sleep...guess that'll bring a new definition of a game boring you to sleep XD

Honestly though, how about Nintendo support their previous peripherals with dozens more games, rather then trying to push another cash in gimmick such as this, I mean enough with the peripherals, this generation has been full them.

Eh, Nintendo seems satisfied with one huge game per peripheral. You can call it a gimmick, but this is Nintendo trying to find and exploit untapped markets. It's their fetish this generation.

if your an investor or some Nintendo employee, then it's awesome, but as a gamer it sucks balls so much buying a peripheral based game for only 1 game, it's upto 1st part to supporr the peripheral otherwise 3rd won't even touch it, I mean you can't seriously be happy with this 1 huge game per peripheral crap can you, why not want 5 huge games instead?
