Forums - Nintendo - I just beat super metroid for the 1st time, one of the best games ever?

In 1994, I told an Air Force recruiter that I would join the Air Force if he bought me Super Metroid. That commercial ("That's 24 megs ol' Killer is up against -Nintendo's biggest game ever) had me so hyped! I wound up getting it myself before I enlisted. The game did not disappoint. If I'd have gotten that game in exchange for dying in some far off country, I wouldn't have regretted it.

So you are saying that I probably should play it?

Hell yes it does. I'm fairly certain it'd be in my Top 5.

Super Metroid is amazing. Definitely better than anything this generation has brought us so far.

Well, almost, anyway.

To be honest, I don't like it as much as I used to. It falls behind Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission for me, because when I play it, it feels like I'm regressing from Prime 3 controls to Prime 1 and 2 controls.

Currently playing: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, NBA2k11, Metal Gear Solid, Picross 3d

It is a truly amazing game. It goes definitevely into my top ten of all time, and second of my SNES favourites games (behind FFVI and above Chrono Trigger).

As an anecdote, I bought a Gamecube some years ago jut to play Metroid Prime. Got a couple of other games, but the pourpose always was the metroid game. The game was awesome, but nowhere near Super Metroid.

Gotta love the VC. No need to deal with clunky old cartridges or consoles and you get to enjoy the classics, even the ones you missed first time around.

I played Super Metroid for the first time about a year ago, so I know exactly how you feel. Tonight I started playing Link to the Past for the first time.

You're in for a total treat!

Why are you still here, when you could be downloading and playing Super Metroid? Some people...

What about that ending huh?

I still remember the first time I saw it. No dialogue and such emotion.

I know, it's probably my greatest gaming shame.  I was lent the game years ago by a friend, but at the same time I was also given Chrono Trigger... Super Metroid became that game that I promised to get around to sooner or later.

I only recently started using the VC and Wiiware and so far I've been replacing all my old games that my brother and sister traded in (damn them) while i was overseas and now Super Metroid is still that game that I am promising to get around to sooner or later.

It's all the more stupid because I absolutely love the Prime series, but I can honestly says it's probably the next game I'm going to download, I promise :)
