The managing director of a leading online retailer has told IncGamers that sales of the Xbox 360 have almost doubled since a deal appeared on the high street, cutting a third off the console's RRP.
Mark Pearson's site, MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, has seen a 186% increase in the number of Xbox 360 sales as a direct result of the deal being offered at high street stores HMV and Game, whereby gamers can get the console for just £109.99 GBR.
“The prices have decreased since the summer when the consoles were selling for £130 GBP each. Not only have sales for the Xbox 360 doubled, the number of searches for the site have also seen an increase of 400% since the beginning of the year.” said Pearson.
So can retailers double sales of the PS3 by offering a similar deal for that console? Pearson thinks not.
“Whilst I think that the price of a PS3 would impact on sales figures, I do not believe it would be as big an increase as that of the Xbox.”
He continued; “I think that the fact that PS3’s are so much more expensive than that of the Xbox, that even a price reduction wouldn’t make as much of a difference. There would have to be a huge price drop to see sales figures like the ones we have for the Xbox 360.”
Pearson's site is the UK’s leading discount code and voucher site that saved British consumers £52m GBP last year, and made £481m GBP in sales, with 9m unique users a month.
As we reported yesterday, the Xbox 360 is topping gamers' Christmas lists here in the UK, followed by the Wii, then the PS3 on that order.
