They do not have the rights to make 'new fallout games'. They only have the right to make a Fallout MMO. Bethesda has the right to make all new 'regular' fallout games and spinoffs.

This is my understanding as well.

So bye-bye Project V13, Hello Fallout MMO!

That's about the only difference I see this making...

Project V13 is/was the Fallout MMO.

Hm, Interplay isn't exactly what it used to be, so I can't see this as a good thing. But let's wait and see what they have planned.

Sadly true, but a MMO isn't like a single player game that you can throw into the market and almost forget it like they did with Planescape:Torment, that if it weren't for talented fans patches would be, with only the last official patch, barely playable and full of glitches and broken secondary quests. A MMO requires constant care and skilled personnel even a long time after initial release, so every good news for Interplay is a godsend, meaning that it will be easier for them to get the funds necessary to hire talented programmers and creatives.

Just to see the glass half full, in the worst case Bethesda will have to work harder to face possible competition, so we'll see at least a little benefit from what happened. In no way Interplay victory can ruin what Bethesda is doing well and it can't worsen what Interplay itself is doing so let's hope that all this will bring more than its minimum potential.

LOL...did you guys actually READ the proceedings? Interplay isn't going to be making new Fallout RPGs, part of the sale of the license was that they would secure the financing and begin work on a new Fallout MMO, not that they can make new Fallout RPGs.

It wasn't very clear, actually, about what Interplay can or can't do besides F 1&2, FT anf F MMO and that it's free to market what it has rights for as it likes. But Fallout MMO can be huge enough, if both development and marketing are done properly.

I know: I was referring to the fact that it wouldn't be called Project V13 anymore. Sorry for the confusion.

actually bethesda "only" has the rights for fallout 3, 4, 5, 6 and the rest of the franchise is interplays. Atleast that's how it was worded in the stuff i've written in relation to the lawsuit.

Oooh this is interesting, can you clarify this further as New Vegas is not part of the 3, 4, 5, 6 rules. How much leeway does Bethesda has to release these games? Can they name a game Fallout 3: <insert name> until they milked the franchise dry before finally moving on to 4? Are they limited to the a single engine per iteration or can they option in other engines and keep the series going so long as the single story continuety is observed? Or does Bathesda only have the right to the next '4' Fallout and Vegas will count for number 2 (4)?

What about spinoff? or marketing Fallout games for system such as the Iphone?

lol I don't know that much about it. It's been a while since I read it. I think what I read was interplays response in relation to besthedas lawsuit where they clarified exacly what parts of the ip was one companys and which were the others... among other things.
