Forums - Gaming - Why is it that the Modern Warfare 2 "No Russian" scene went too far?

This is probably something that has been beaten to death but whatever, I'm just curious why people think this scene went too far when there are so many other scenes just as bad in just about every mature game.

Why is this one picked on so much when in Assassin's Creed you ruthlessly kill people, in Uncharted 2 you kill hundreds of people, in Final Fantasy VI a whole nation is poisoned because one guy is impatient, in Mass Effect you can choose to let hundreds of people die because you don't want to do sidequests, in GTA you can run around killing innocent people all you want, and so on.

Because, it's in an Airport. With Terrorists.

Because it hits close to home, it acts out something that people actually legitimately fear in eerie detail and accuracy, not something more fantasy like those you mention.

...

u play as a terrorist killing innocent people in the biggest game of this gen. hummm i wonder

I don't know, it's just insane how touchy people are about so many things. You saw or do the most minute little thing that could be wrong or controversial and all of a sudden you went too far when the people yelling that and thumping their bibles didn't even bother looking at what they're trying to do.

It happens in the movies every other week, don't see why video games should be targeted when this type of media has been available for ages in other forms of entertainment.

It went too far because it far went too...Yo!

Maybe because of 9/11, people don't like the idea of terrorism, and stuff like that. It bothers them.

This scene may remind people of that and bother them, I personally don't care.

Odd. Future. Wolf. Gang. Kill. Em. All. OFWGKTA Don't give a fuck!

Fuck Steve Harvey. FREE EARL!

Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be the GREATEST game EVER made!!!

I'd take a bullet for Square-Enix!

What is games moral or is there even such a thing?

Do they even need it since they are harmless amusement, entertainment?

So ok I buy Modern Warware 2 and they give me gun and point what I need to shoot.

Why I shoot?Do I need reason to shoot in game?

Most times developers use war.If you don't shoot, he will shoot you.

I don't need games - or anything to tell me what is wrong and what is right.I wan't to decide my own.
Gamers act on their own morale.

Take my love, take my land..

I didn't really get the whole 'controversial' thing.

I just shot everything that moved.
