Forums - Gaming - Uncharted - Could it become one of the greatest gaming series of all time?

There will be plenty more Uncharted games.

The franchise is growing. Maybe with new characters but still Uncharted.

NO. the game is far from classic imo.

console games ain't great compare to what PC games used to be.

Gamers now just like simple fun... you can't find a game as deep as those old school PC games. especially when compare Console RPGs to what PC RPGs used to be like.

Best games are PC strategy games.

Thanks for your well thought out, in depth input. Responses like these are always welcome on VGChartz.

Although I've never played anything on PC quite as "deep" as MGS4. Guess it just means that nothing is absolute here.

Agreed, and there are plenty of other console games out there that are "Deeper" then PC games IMO.

Here is the thing, and I guess my argument. Greatest Games of All Time is subjective, and if it is based on majority of gamers, it might not be labeled greatest game of all time due to some people avoiding this great game. Which is a pity because I think it deserves to be with the Marios and Zeldas.

To something else, I do not believe Gears is going to truly leave a mark. As in it will not be labeled a classic by generations from now, but no one can truly know what will be labeled as classics of the future.

The only thing I do know is that two games will be known as cult classics: Valkyrie Chronicles and No More Heroes, and I would put some money on that.

I agree that U2 was a very good game but it doesn't deserve GOTY. NSMBWii does.
NSMBWii brought a lot more new things than U2 did.

OT:

Agreed with twesterm that Uncharted series should and probably will stop after the third iteration. Gears shouldn't go any further than 2 iterations.

1. Name all the things NSMB Wii has done, that haven't been done before.

2. You will soon stop saying U2 doesn't deserve GotY when you see 90% of sites give it the GotY award.

3. Actually play Gears 2.

1. 4 Player - Do i need to say more? Really...Come on for the first time.

2. Agreed with you on that point because even though I want NSMBWii to come as GOTy on many sites U2 will because most of the sites are bised against wii..and thats not to say U2 was a great game (i personally loved it and hope for more (my friends ps3)) but for me NSMBWii deserves it more..

3. IAgreed on that because I have only played Gears for about 3 hours and its a great game and it doesn't really have much room for improvement so if it keeps on going then in my opinion it might start to feel a little old so instead why not stop making gears after 2nd iteratioin and then next gen bring it out and hype it up all over again and people will be like omg its gears again lol

If Zelda Wii or SMG2 was released this year Uncharted 2 could have a stiff compettition for GOTY. I am not saying NSMBwii is a bad game though. It's a great game.

There again who's to say another enemy can't be presented in the Gears storyline? Or who's to say the conclusion of defeated the Locust (for being a fan of Gears, you sure can't remember the enemy's name well) will end in the 3rd entry into the series?

Drake certainly seems to have a good connection with "last year's model", perhaps the 3rd will conclude that Drake should settle down with the only riches he needs (if you catch my drift).  You see, I can draw up ideas for whether or not a series should be extened as well

Could, yes, but it doesn't have to.

Alien invasions don't go on forever. Either the Locust die, or the Humans die. Inevitable. And if the Locust die and MORE aliens/whatever appear, I'm pretty sure Fenix would just kill himself.

Treasure hunting adventures can be numerous. Drake can always discover new treasures to find, for as long as Naughty Dog wants to make the series. Thousands of years of mythology from dozens of different cultures, as I said. He's only done El Dorado and Shambhala/Cintamani so far.

Okay it's inevitable that either Humans or Locust will die but who are you to say that story can only last for another entry into the series?  There's many other facets that could be explored in the Gears series that could keep on going possibly long after Drake's discovered everything from the Crystal Skull to the Flying Dutchman.

Who's to say Drake can be the only adventurer who finds these numerous artifacts? Can't another dev. make some other type of gun-toting character to find ancient treasures as well?  Once again, anyone can draw up ideas for whether or not a series should be extended as well.

Not necessarily another entry, I didn't say it had to be a trilogy. But I think we can safely assume that there are more mythological treasures to be found than plot twists in a not-alien invasion.

They could draw it out for another 10 games, but it's highly unlikely. Not that Uncharted will last ten games, probably 5 or 6.

Uh, and leave the entire story hanging forever? That doesn't make much sense...

Agreed, needs to be one more, two at most lol. Dontcha just love what some people say rocketpig?

Back on topic, Uncharted has a long ways to go before it touches the elite franchises like Half-Life, Warcraft, or even Halo... Uncharted is a fun series but I don't see it blowing up that big... and even if it does, there's a good chance it goes the way of Tomb Raider if they try to milk it. The serial adventure formula gets old quickly, contrary to what some of you around here seem to think. It's fun for awhile but it doesn't have the same traction that an overarching storyline found in HL or Halo does... and even Halo's story is fizzling with its fourth installment.
