After playing Metroid Prime 3, it was nearly impossible for me to play a shooter on a gamepad - it's just so shitty, lol.
And then after I built my computer and got into some PC shooters, it just made it even worse.

I remember during the first months of the original Halo release on PC, it allowed you to play cross-platform. It was quickly stopped though. I remember playing it vs. console gamers and winning every match with at least a 20piont gap. I was accused of hacking several times.
I am not trying to say that I am a superb FPS gamer, as I get my ass whooped on the right server. I am just using this as a small way to help illustrate my belief of KB+M>Console Controller.
(I do also understand that this may not be a fully fair comparison since at this time FPS on console was still a mostly new concept.[golden eye excluded])

Halo CE on Xbox never had online play....
ROFLMAO.
This is a really stupid argument. The PC is the father of FPS. By it's very nature the FPS was built around a pointer. No matter how you spin the excuses even the Consoles use a pointer. It's just assisted and shoehorned into the console controller.
In many respects the Console FPS was an expanded the FPS market by bringing in many non FPS players. Typicly with watered down gaming experience. I know many FPS players from the days of DOOM that just consider the Console FPS scene a joke. Not being considered as a viable tournament level of play in regards to accuracy.
No matter the postulating of the low console gamers and their weaker assisted aiming systems to balance the flaws of the naturally pointer orientated shooter. Won't change the fact that the console controller is not as good. Yes it has the analog for movement, but that alone doesn't not give much strength to it's over all game play style.
There is nothing the console gamer is ever going to be able to do that will ever have the classic console control justified in the eyes of the PC FPS veteran. Considering that FPS was 10 more years mature on the PC why should veteran PC FPS gamers respect console gamers?
Though I have seen and myself included a nod towards the WiiRemote since it's pointer based and does have the analog advantage. Is the Pointer as good as the mouse. no not really, but it's miles above targeting with an analog stick. Though they tend to get on the Wii case for being behind in elements of graphics and game play layout. I suspect because most of the Wii FPS do seem to be dated.
I however will at least respect that as long as your having fun with your game is all that matters, but my friends will continue to just call console gamers [insert derogatory comment].
Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Although the Xbox version of Halo lacks official support for online multiplayer play, XLink Kai, GameSpy and XBConnect's packet tunnelling software provide unofficial ways around this limitation.
The players could have been lieing and trying to use it as an excuse.

Actually you could play SystemLink over the internet using GameSpy's tunnel service.
Edit: I'm not saying, though, that it has cross-plat capabilities. I don't know about that...but after searching google, I'm calling bullshit.
Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!
Kojima: Come out with Project S already!
I used to think the same way, that keyboard+mouse owns all, but now Im leaning more towards the Wii remote for FPS

Yes, but those didn't offer cross platform play with PC.... They used system link to connect to someone you had to choose from on the software. I used XBConnect back in the day
And after extensive searching the only thing I have found is that Halo PC was cross-platform with Mac, not Xbox.
welshbloke said: Keyboad and mouse is by far the better option. I fail to see how it could be considered cheating as all players have the option to use a Keyboard and mouse. Of course it being a PC they could also use a console controller for many games. The downside to PC gaming especially FPS is cheating something I would imagine is near non existent on the console. |
This is about the best reason.
The mouse is undoubtedly better for aiming, and the analog stick is undoubtedly better for moving.
These are facts.
But, some people prefer the feel of a controller, and they may be better with a controller than a mouse, compared to the general population. IE: they get better scores with a controller than KB+M, because EVERYONE is using a controller.
