Although the Xbox version of Halo lacks official support for online multiplayer play, XLink Kai, GameSpy and XBConnect's packet tunnelling software provide unofficial ways around this limitation

Yes, but those didn't offer cross platform play with PC.... They used system link to connect to someone you had to choose from on the software. I used XBConnect back in the day
And after extensive searching the only thing I have found is that Halo PC was cross-platform with Mac, not Xbox.
