LBP says hello

LBP is 2.5D, with three planes of movement in the z direction for the PS3 and two in the PSP version. This is about the same degree of freedom in three dimensions as Doom had, and you wouldn't call Doom a 2D game would you?

=) yep.

but it's not 3d, thats the point.

The original comment did not say that only 3-D games should be released on the PSP/Wii/PS3/XBox360.  If that was the case LittleBigPlanet could say "hello".  The original comment said 2-D games should only be released on the DS.  Since LittleBigPlanet is not a 2-D game, it can't say hello.  If BlazBlue or Braid said hello, I'd understand.

Wow, sad news. I can't believe he said that. There go my dreams for a Castlevania 2D using Wii's full potential =(

Well they are making Castlevania The Adventure ReBirth for WiiWare at least.

Yeah, but I want a 2D game like Muramasa, using more Wii potential and capacity. WiiWare would be fine though, if they created new experiences and not only making retro games. Don't get me wrong, I like them but how about a 2D Castlevania game with 128bit graphic power and orchestrated music?

Castlevania Judgment FC:     1161 - 3389 - 1512

3DS Friend Code:   3480-2746-6289

Wii Friend Code: 4268-9719-1932-3069

Yeah, it would be legendary. It's too bad it'll probably never happen, because I would be all over that faster than you can say string cheese.

Hey IGA.  Don't look now but people are making better 2D games than you.  On the Wii.

Go back to making your watered down versions of a 11 year old game.  That features less of the 'sharp gameplay' that you keep advocating 2D games are superior for having.  Also, your 3D games suck.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

So what great non-DS 2-D games has everybody been enjoying recently? Or what great non-DS 2-D games are we all looking forward to around here?

Anybody play Orbital on WiiWare (or the Japan-only GBA version from a few years back)? That's one of my favorite 2-D games of the last few years. It's kinda hypnotizing to play. So simple, but I get sucked into the zone and could play it for hours in a trance. Beautiful art and sound with so few colors too.

I just beat Muramasa this last week. Loooooooved it. Looking back at it, I can complain and say it had a little too much running around and grinding and backtracking, but to be honest, it was just so beautiful and fun I didn't really mind at the time. And what do I have to do to get the 2nd endings for each character?

Contra Rebirth kicked all sorts of major ass. The first level has a space ship explode, and you fight the boss while riding the debris down to Earth. After falling FROM OUTER SPACE, you land on an alien, killing it, and you don't get a scratch. You just immediately start running and gunning. Paradise.

New SMB Wii is probably one of the best games I've ever played.

Mega Man 10 looks awesome, and if it's half as fun as Mega Man 9 I'll be very very pleased with it.

And here's 2-D Portal: http://portal.wecreatestuff.com/

And if you want to mix a few different flavors of oldschool, here's 2-D Doom: http://www.silvergames.com/game/flash-doom-2d/

Agree... even if it's funnier wii capable of much better

Since it has already been established that Igarashi's comment is uneducated, I'm just going to comment on the 2D vs 3D argument from a few pages back.

There is no reason that both 2D and 3D Mario can't coexist. While you have some people who dislikes 3D Mario and wishes for its immediate termination, there are still millions of fans out there. Why should Nintendo just abandon 3D Mario instead of trying to fix their flaws and hopefully make it attractive to the expanded audience? 3D Mario might not be considered the natural evolution of 2D Mario anymore, but that doesn't mean it should be abandoned. It still sells far more than most other Mario spin-offs like Mario Party and Mario RPG.

Also.... another way to put it... are movies that aren't in color worse then color movies?

I'd say no.

I'd even say a LOT of movies in black and white actually would be worse in color. Black and White adds it's own feeling and is just better for some movies. Same with 2D. Some games and genres just work better in 2D.

Plat formers being a big one, since 3D plat formers STILL don't come near the control perfection of a Mario brothers game.

NSMB Wii proves that 2D is still viable on the Wii, and in fact may actually herald the death of 3D mario

I agree 2D is very much viable. New Super Mario Bros. Wii is a great example. Another is Tatsunoko vs Capcom. A fighting game that is still 2D. Perhaps it's because I grew up with 2D and then 3D but I found video of that game far more enjoyable to watch then other 3D fighters. It's simply, very effective, and great to look at. The same can be said for Super Smash Bros. Brawl. A great fighting game but it is 2D and people love it. Then there is Muramasa: THe Demon Blade which is 2D and just beautiful. 2D gaming is fully viable if it is allowed. Nintendo seems to have no issues with 2D games being on their systems. They embrace it still. I prefer a 2D game that looks great and plays great over something that is 3D simply because it's expected due to the technology that is avaliable. If it works as a 2D game best then make it 2D. Everything does not have to be 3D. Just a note current 2D games aren't old school 2D anyway but more of a hybrid at times of the two systems I think.

I find that sometimes 2D games can look better then 3D games. Granted in the end it's personal preference in the end but 3D isn't "better" just because it's 3D. I think sometimes people think that.

The reason I think we don't see a lot more games in 2D is because Sony and Microsoft seem to have issues with it. I believe Sony all but banned 2D games on the PS2 during it's later years as well. Microsoft seems more okay with it though but dont' think I've ever seen them embrace it.
