Since it has already been established that Igarashi's comment is uneducated, I'm just going to comment on the 2D vs 3D argument from a few pages back.

There is no reason that both 2D and 3D Mario can't coexist. While you have some people who dislikes 3D Mario and wishes for its immediate termination, there are still millions of fans out there. Why should Nintendo just abandon 3D Mario instead of trying to fix their flaws and hopefully make it attractive to the expanded audience? 3D Mario might not be considered the natural evolution of 2D Mario anymore, but that doesn't mean it should be abandoned. It still sells far more than most other Mario spin-offs like Mario Party and Mario RPG.
