The ozon layer hole is still there and still growing, though its growth rate has decreased since the ozone-damaging chemicals emissions such as CFC have been reduced after the Montreal protocol. Their amount in the lower atmosphere is slowly decreasing (by less than 10% since the peak), and at this rate it will take about another 30 years for the hole to stop growing.

So why exactly they "were a scam"?

In order to understand the current green movement and its political context, we have to go back to early 90's, when Soviet Union, as to say, crashed and burned and the communist movement felt a little homeless. So they invaded the green movement (which is why it's often called red-green), which caused a lot of people who were involved in it during the 80's to leave the movement. They didn't leave the movement because they themselves didn't care for the evinronment, but because the movement didn't care anymore.

You may notice that everything the "capitalist" does is always bad for the evinronment, but when pollution is about their own agenda, it's never pollutive, even if it would be the excact same thing the capitalist did.

There is a reason why countries are trying to phaze out fossil fuels.

The fact that there's no "Wii" logo, and this box has only appeared with third party games, indicates that Nintendo probably has nothing to do with this and third parties are themselves being cheap. Nintendo can hardly be expected to police this practice.

UPDATE: When Nintendo decided to remove plastic bottoms for SNES cartridges and decided to cover them with that awful gold covering was my breaking point around fifteen years ago. I was told then, too, that “oh, the company has no choice, oh, they have to do things because of the law or prices or…” That is all BS. I’ve worked in law. They can get around this if they want.
