Invisible Walls

Not even the Sakamoto Cultist can excuse this…

Email: Yoshio Sakamoto presents Metroid: Oh Mama

Dear Malstrom,

My name is Yoshio Sakamoto and i am very upset.
The last months your blog has been a place of many spiteful comments by you and people who cannot grasp the grandness of my vision, which millions of gamers are able to enjoy at this very moment I write this e-mail. This vision is called Other M and it has been a grand effort by me and Team Ninja to present you the deepest and most hidden corridors of
Samus psyche.

So in order to silence your petty complaints, I present you the continuation of this labour called Metroid : Oh Mama.

In this game I will dive deeper to the bottom of Samus feelings and gamers will find the chance to fully familiarise with Samus’ maternal insticts. This time Samus will return to SR388,
- an homage to metroid 2
- only this time not as a killer but as a rescuer of metroids.

The Galactic Federation, revealing its evil intentions, captured a number of baby metroids and Samus, responding to the call of her maternal insticts, sneaks to the planet.

Here I have to mention that realizing the gamers’ complaints about how Samus in Other M had to follow the orders of Adam in order to use the Varia suit, I will present a new intuitive way for the player to gradually upgrade the varia suit. Just like Other M, Samus’ suit will be fully equipped from the beginning, but she will be unable to use it because she will be too depressed to use it. I know that this moment your mouth is wide open in awe of my ingenuity, but I didn’t finish. Very important role to the game
will have the Maternal Insticts Meter aka MIM. As you save and nurture baby metroids, Samus’ MIM will rise thus she will be confident enough to use her missiles. As metroids fall to Samus’ hug, her MIM will be going up
and Samus will be in the mood of using other functions of her suit such as the grapple beam or the ice beam.

Save all baby metroids, and Samus, having accomplished her destination as a woman and a mother, will be able to abandon her emotional shell, and as a fully powered Zero Suit Samus will be able to slap to death the malevolent Chozos, who after raising her as a ruthless emotionless robot, now want to exterminate her and vaporize the misunderstood metroids out of existence. Poor Metroids! The only thing ever craved was the human touch, thus they felt victims of all these horrible experiments throughout the entire series.

I know Malstrom, that now you want to kneel before my infinite wisdom and my incomparable brilliance, while you beg for my forgiveness for all these malicious posts of yours and your ignorant readership.

But fear not: I forgive you and you will soon have the honor to receive the first copy of Metroid: Oh Mama.

P.s Please forgive my mediocre english, but i was having all these years devoted to the TRUE Citizen Cane of videogames.

And if i hear ever again anyone giving this title to this piece of crap called Metroid Prime, I will be retired and never again you will enjoy any masterpiece from me ever!

P.s And please do not reveal these classified informations about Metroid:Oh mama. I don’t want Hideo Kojima copy these precious ideas for his next Metal Gear.

I TOLD you people not give Sakamoto any more ideas… See what you have done!?

"It is ironic that Move and Kinect are trying to offer a ‘better experience’ to the Wii consumer when that was their exact marketing statement in 2006."

I have the same filling that Move and Kinect are using the same marketing statement.

"In order for Move and Kinect to succeed, they must sell to Sean Malstrom"

I was a former gamer,  my las console was a SNES. But now I have (only) a Wii so I'm the audience that Sony and Microsoft are trying to "graduate". Unfortunately until I see something completely new and revolutionary like Wii Sport was in the past I will not buy either Move or Kinect.

Hmm....it looks like Malstrom isn´t really optimistic about the 3DS...I thought he was.

While I think he can handle the analog stick, it's the games he's discussing. If the lineup is too much of the games that caused lapsed gamers, it will falter.

What I hope is this is just the first wave, and that the next will include Super Mario Brost 3DS, and other games that gave the Wii and DS mass appeal.

One problem the 3DS faces is that alot of people have bought a DS already.  While they will eventually upgrade to a 3DS if it has the software, the people most likely to rush out and buy a 3DS on day one, despite owning a DS, are the core gamers.  Nintendo could be focusing on the core gamers first while migrating the expanded audience from the DS over time.

Of course, there are those who haven't bought even the DS yet, and will go straight to the 3DS, so Nintendo should have some expanded audience stuff for launch as well.

You would expect Nintendo to be clever enough to release another Mario for the 3DS. They can't be that stupid, really

My biggest problem with the 3DS is the touch screen to be honest. The touch screen was amazingly implemented in some games. But with the 3DS Nintendo wants to promote the 3D effect and I fear many developers will just concentrate on that and stop releasing innovative and fresh ones because using both screens at the same time should be a bit harder this time. The problem is you can't have 3D on the lower screen which could cause problems in some games (like Advance Wars. Wouldn't it feel stupid to have the big 3D screen unused and that damn small Touch Screen as the main screen?)

Maybe we should just wait for Nintendo's late September event. We still haven't seen the user interface and there might be some great surprises left.

It could just be the interface for some games. I say Saint Row could use the touch screen to get around the fewer buttons. Put things like radio control, mission toggling, and in/out of vehicles on parts of the touch screen.

I just realized that using the touchscreen that way could be considered a high tech and customizable evolution of Mattel Intellivision's game-specific overlays for the numeric pad.

I was actually thinking that an Intellevision collection on the DS or 3DS could use the touch screen that way.

Very good idea. Better on DS, as it would reach a wider audience, and Intellivision games don't need the 3D screen (and it would run on 3DS too anyway). BTW some years ago some f*#@%ing thieves (*) stole some things in my mom's cottage, amongst which on top of some antiques, also the computer expansion for Intellivision and all the games, both for Intellivision and expansion, that my sister didn't previously take at her's, so I would be quite tempted, should I decide to buy a DS when its price is lower (spare time to use it will be the final factor to decide, alas! )

(*) I wish they spend all the loot for palliative care
