based on the information provided above, does anyone have a realistic estimate for how much development time is left? Obviously no one will exactly know, but is it unreasonable to believe that a Holiday 2010 release might happen?

Nintendo seem to be operating on shorter development times for some big games these days, so I wouldn't be too surprised.

This is the only contender for their "big game" of 2010, if they manage to make it into a bridge game in the vein of Mario Kart Wii and NSMB. I'm skeptical that they will achieve anything like that though. It would be perfectly doable, but I don't think the way they seem to be approaching it is going to result in that.

From what we've heard so far, I agree (though I couldn't say for sure, we don't have much to go by).

The thing about Zelda is, more so than any of Nintendo's titles, it is the core game. By that I mean, if they "screw" this up (by reviews / metacritic standards) due to making it more accessible / a bridge title, the internet would literally explode. Ha, I wonder how Eiji Aonuma would feel about that... considering how he still goes on about topping Ocarina of Time.

I think it still will be a bridge title, and I think it could outsell Twilight Princess, at least, and keep the core happy. But to reach the heights of MK:Wii and expected of NSMB, they would need as radical a return to roots as they had for those games. The core would go crazy if they did that alright. It would mean dropping all the fat that's built up in the idea of a Zelda game, and core Nintendo gamers are quite fond of that fat...

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Sweet, and given Nintendo's (lame) policy of not releasing info on games till they are close at hand, Winter of 2010 would be a distinct posibility.

This is gonna be the best zelda ever

Why would SMG2's legs get cut? 3D and 2D Mario are different. Anyway, we'll see.

Different yes, but more people prefer 2D mario, and given the choice most will buy 2D not 3D

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

It's because Nintendo said that Galaxy 2 would be ready for release Holiday 09, but got delayed so it wouldn't interfere with the launch of NSMBWii ... Personally I think it'd be strange to delay a game an entire year when it's done.

Oh they did? Huh I never knew... must've missed that. I thought they'd only said it'd come 'next year'. That changes things then, I guess... Ah well, we'll see. Nintendo will release their games whenever they feel it's best, nothing we can do to change it. That said, I still don't see Galaxy 2 releasing before E3, nor Zelda Wii before 2011.

I actually can't find the source where I read it first (which was way back in like June/July), but here's a newer one from early november which says pretty much the same thing:

Hmm... this will be an interesting to watch, then, I had no idea. Cool.

Yeah, first half 2010 doesn't sound so crazy anymore does it

Still does, for the reason of it being too close to NSMB Wii, as they don't want to see lower galaxy 2 sales due to NSMB and the fact that E3 will help them hype up Galaxy 2

Honestly I never could play Zelda. Since O.O.T Zelda is way to hard and confusing for me. The closest I ever got to beating a Zelda game was in O.O.T when I got to that Ice place where you are in a whale or something(I think it was a whale???) I have O.O.T , M.M , T.W.W but I never got T.P on either system. The reason I never got Twilight Princess was because of the whole wolf thing that just confused the heck out of me! I might get this one if it seems good.

In 2010 I think Nintendo will have: (All Sunday Dates as Nintendo seems to put out games most on sunday)

Endless Ocean 2(Blue World?)- February 21 2010(22nd is Monday)
Sin and Punishment 2- March 14 2010
N.P.C Pikmin 2- April 11 2010
Poke Park Wii P.B.A- May 9 2010
Super Mario Galaxy 2- June 13 2010
Metroid Other M- August 1 2010
Pikmin 3- November 7 2010
Zelda Hype Wii- December 12 2010

S.M.G.2 should be out right before E3 for Nintendo can say we just released a great game last week.

Pikmin 3- I think Nintendo will use Pikmin 3 as the Bridge game and will put Motion plus in the game and try to promote it well at the end of the year.

Zelda Hype Wii- I think Nintendo will leave Zelda very hardcore and make it a gamer game at the end of the year leaving Pikmin 3 to fend for the non gamers.

Vitality sensor- I don't think this will be ready until Early 2011.

I'm happy for Nintendo and it's fans but this is one Zelda I will not be rooting for. Aonuma is a good producer but he is not the right producer for Zelda. I will remain a fan but I shall not buy one more Zelda game until Miyamoto returns to the franchise.

So you haven't bought a Zelda game since 1998, is what you're saying.

i hope this games comes out march 2011 or later.

why?

because to many people only want this game so that they can turn around and start yelling "ok nintendo bring ou a new console"

and thats the last thing i want is for nintendo to kill off the Wii becuae these casual gamers want nothing to do with nintendo besides play zelda.

and yeah i called you fake "hardcore" gamers casual.

Zelda will not hit in 2010, I'm quite sure that Retro Studios new title will be the major core game for the holidays and Zelda would take away from it.

We can all dream though :P

Please.

If this is shown, Ninty may win E3 with just that...
