Forums - Sony - Local PS3 stock levels - eating up 360 shelf space

@ Legend11

I am not from the states, I of course meant worldwide hardware sales. 360 launch year sales vs current PS2 hardware sales. The PS2 still performs well.

I hate this thread. I don't see the point of posting such info when we have numbers gathered from such information from stores but gathered at a much larger scale (VGC) as well as official tracking firms...

The Slim launch in Japan did not look great on pictures but belw us all away when "official" MC and Famitsu figures leaked. Now, you are ready to take pictures of one store in Groningen... To prove what? PS3 will outsell 360 there (doh, we already know this)? It will outsell the Wii this holiday (we never know but figures seem to make this nighly unlikely)?

@ lazyrider

I have never seen the PS3 this much in stock at this megastore, nor take up most of the 360's shelf space there. Personally I would applaud others to share interesting info on hands-on events as well on a community site like this.

I am not holding a gun to your head to read this thread...

BTW, pics from the slim launch in Japan looked good and it sold over 150K for the week!

And with regard to hardware sales, I think the most objective and interesting data we will get from financial reports instead of estimates.

Don't your local store have a stock room?
In the UK the retailers sell space to the companies. So How much space one system has over the other is a hard way to tell over here. And i just cant imagine a store even in the most upmarket part of the UK keeping their stock on the Shop Floor. Odd really.

But this post is just fanboyism anyway - my local store sells more PS3's than anything else - And the implications are.................

Systems owned
Vectrex, Master System, Nes, Megadrive 1 + 2, Mega CD, Super Nintendo, Jaguar, Saturn, Playstation, N64, Dreamcast, Gamecube, PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360, PS3, WII
Handhelds: Game gear, game boy, Lynx 1, Lynx 2, Gameboy Advance, Neo Geo Pocket Colour, PS Vita, Ds Lite, 3DS,
All the ones in read were/are my favourite.

Small shelf for PS3 and X360. Very large shelf for Wii. Thats how it goes here atm.

Wasn't that $100 dollar giftcard deal from November?

dude that was just for 2 or 3 days.

The PS3 is definitely gaining momentum this holiday season, but it won't catch up its sales gap compared to other consoles any time soon.

Media Market is a mass shifter of consoles, they usually put pallets of consoles in-store. They also sell things like washing machines or fridges, for this they usually have one show model in-store and the rest wrapped up in their storage. Smaller equipment they have in-store, like I asked for a specific model gourmet in the store a few weeks ago. They said if it's not on the shelves, it's sold out.

The point is... Mike B really really likes the PS3 more then the 360 and Wii.

Duh.

Tha's pretty much how MediaMarkt/Saturn operates. In all shops I've seen, the stock room is just large enough to unload a truck and immediately move the stuff into the store area. If you operate on smaller margins than the competition, you don't waste money on shop space no customer sees.

btw in our local MediaMarkt, the 10 (yes, ten) different XBox360 bundles took about three times the shelf space than the PS3+Wii (now it's about even space. The three consoles also sell about the same amounts).

@ MikeB - Thnaks for the reply. My point with PS3 was that a read a lot of people unimpressed by the pics at the time of the Slim launch and despite that it sold well.

Now regarding your surpirse that PS3 is occupying more space then before, well duh, since the slim launch it is selling much better, and of course, much better than the PS3. No big surprise here.

And finally, if you rely on financial reports for sales data, why are you on VGC?

Anyway, I just wanted to get a point across that anecdotal data (ie from one store) is not very telling and hence, I did (do) not see the point of making a thread about it. But in now way can I stop you from doing so of course (a part from putting a gun to your head to stop... )
