Forums - Sales - Pachter : I'm TROUBLED by Lackluster Uncharted 2 SALES!

We have 2 extra weeks of tracking, and its at 940k in the AMericas on VGC. Thats 290k difference. Id say that Canada the rest of the American countries and the extra 2 weeks could make up the difference

Why are people always attack VGC every time Pachter throws us a number ?

Tell me, besides Halo what other HUGE 1st party sellers does Microsoft have though?

Gears of War?

As already mentioned to you, Gears of War is not 1st Party. Basically, it proves my point, out of 1st Party franchises, Sony and Microsoft (saleswise) are quite even. In fact, Sony is ahead, as Gran Turismo has a higher-sales record than that Halo. I'm not talking in amount of games released in each series, I'm talking sales for their highest selling game overall. They are quite even otherwise, so the notion that Sony is so far behind Microsoft is quite laughable.

Not just that, but back when Sony owned Crash Bandicoot, it was larger than Gears of War.

Sony never actually owned Crash, but I understand your point, and agree.

They didn't?...Wow, news to me...

Nope, they didn't bro. Naughty Dog just developed it but never owned the IP.

I just wiki'ed it, and you were right. I'm aware Naughty Dog wasn't owned by Sony back then. But I had thought it was owned by both Sony and Vivendi, and then Sony sold off all rights to Vivendi. But I was wrong:

"The first five Crash titles were published by Sony as well as the games being produced by Universal Interactive Studios."

So this would mean that Vivendi held full rights to the IP back then, and development funding and the sort were handled by Sony. It's basically the exact same case as Gears of War then. Well then, that only helps your argument even more.

Ok, I fail to see how the fact that Gears of War doesn't count as a first party game means that we can write it off completely. Its sales are irrelevant just because Microsoft doesn't own the franchise or Epic? *is confused*

Point is, despite sales, it isn't owned by Microsoft. Can Sony claim MGS4?

Why not? First party in this discussion is really just a technicality anyway, is it not? MGS will always be associated with the PlayStation and Gears of War with the Xbox. I just don't see why that makes much of a difference in this discussion.

We have to remember NPD doesnt track Walmart or Amazon

It's a context issue, my friend. CGI asked specifically for first party games, so in that case, Gears of War wouldn't count.

+1 for themanwithnoname

we should compare the 2 title

I enter and exit in this thread to say that :

Gears = solider + full badass + no brain shooter = very good sales

U2 : not solider + not as badass + not only brain shooter = good sales

MGS4 : a mix between those 2 games + brandname = very good sales

Its just technicalities.  GeoW is marketed and published exclusively by MGS.  If anything, its a 2nd party game just like the Rachet & Clank games are on the PS3.  For all intents and purposes, though, those series could be considered 1st party because of the publishing agreement.

Considering JUST THIS GEN (which is the only fair thing to consider), MGS has Halo 3, ODST, GeoW and 2, Forza 2 (bundling) and Fable III as huge selling games (3 million + LTD).  SCE has Resistance and Motorstorm (bundling for both) and GT:5P.

Granted that has nothing to do with quality or anything.  In fact, I'm trying to figure out what this has to do with anything lol.  Hmm . . . U2 should've been bought more by PS3 owners in the US.  There!
