X Factor winner Joe McElderry has overtaken Rage Against The Machine's 'Killing In The Name' on several download charts.

'The Climb' is the number one download on both Amazon and iTunes, following an early lead from theanti-X Factor RATM song backed by a huge Facebook campaign.

Website Live Hits, which lists real time tracking of download sales, also lists 'The Climb' at number one.

Further grim reading is that bookmakers Ladbrokes have now slashed the odds on McElderry scoring the number one with hisMiley Cyrus cover to 1/8 favourite.

Nick Weinberg from Ladbrokes said: "Joe is the toast of fans up and down the country. For weeks now he's looked like the only realistic winner and has justified his billing. Christmas chart success is virtually assured."

Last night's X Factor final, featuring guest spots from Sir Paul McCartney and Leona Lewis, was watched by an estimated 17million people.

The 'Rage Against The Machine For Christmas No.1' Facebook group have thanked members for helping them raise over £20,000 for charity Shelter so far.

Speaking to Gigwise, Tracy Morter - who set up the now 720,000 strong group with her husband Jon - said: “We're absolutely astonished that we have raised £20,000 for Shelter, thank you so much! This milestone marks start to the week where buying Killing In The Name counts towards the Christmas chart.”

Since 'Killing In The Name' became eligible for the chart yesterday, music lovers have been buying the 1992 rock anthem in their droves in a bid to keep X Factor winner Joe McElderry off the top spot.

However, Tracy warned that mass buying may have a detrimental effect, adding: “Don't get too carried away buying lots of copies from one outlet as this could result in those purchases being disqualified from the count.”

She continued: “Good luck to all the other artists vying for the festive chart. This is what we wanted - a proper race with all kinds of music!”

As well buying 'Killing In Name', those who want to donate to Shelter can do so HERE.

Joe McElderry is currently the strong favourite to take the Christmas number one, with Ladbrokes listing him at 1/8 on.

Kelly Jones from the Stereophonics is the latest musician to give their endorsement for the Rage Against The Machine For Christmas No.1 campaign.

As well as attracting 720,000 members, the Facebook group set up by Tracy and Jon Morter to keep X Factor winner Joe McElderry off the top spot is attracting support from big names.

Following in the footsteps of The Prodigy and RATM's own Tom Morello, Kelly Jones told the Press Association: "I'm all for it - I think, you know, X Factor is a television show which is great, it's entertaining, you can't take it away from it, it's done really well and it's a big focus point for the nation every Saturday night, it is what it is, but on the other hand, there you've got music - so I think it's two different things."

'Killing In The Name' is second favourite for the singles top spot behind McElderry's cover of Miley Cyrus' 'The Climb'.

Those buying the Rage Against The Machine single have so far pledged £22,000 to the charity Shelter. If you'd like to make a donation, you can do so HERE.

In the official UK chart rules it states that if the song is less than 40p then it doesn't count.

Gonna buy mine off play.com I think.

EDIT: Just checked the facebook page and it appears to be confirmed that it DOES actually count, so never mind.
