Forums - Gaming - multi-disc changer: is this a value added feature for consoles?

Would having a multi-disc changer in your console be a selling point for you?

It would have a few of uses:

1. multi-disc games. Insert all the discs in the console and the console does all the disc swapping for you, who needs blu-ray?

2. In social situations where you want to maybe play 2 or 3 games and swap between them over the time you're playing. With the right system soft/firmware you could swp between games in a veru short space of time, as opposed to having to shut down one game, swap discs and start up the next game.

3. You just want your 3/4/5 favourite games to stay in your console ready to load up as soon as you hit the couch.

Sony would have to bring back the Phat housing to make room for the multi-disc changer. MS, while still being able to make a 360 slim, would need to retain the Phatbox. Nintendo would need to make a Wii Phat.

Yes/No?

interesting idea and i like it, but it is a little too late this gen for anything like this. Next gen it could be an option, but I think console makers will either go full digital distribution or give you an option of installing directly onto the hard drive so you wouldn't need the disc. They would have to make some kind of security software to do it that so that it would make it so that disc would only work on that system, but that is very possible and I think more likely than doing a disc changer.

No, it's a dumb idea especially when things are moving towards DD instead of discs.

not at all.....

Isn't keeping games in your console a bad idea?

probably too late anymore to really matter. I could personally care less. Im fine with switching disks but next gen either Blu- ray and digital distribution this will pretty much make this become pointless.

Long Live SHIO!
