well...

A) Remakes sell well... but not amazing. So even if they did remake it... remaking it on PS3 or even PS3/360 would be a ludicrous decision that would be lucky to break even.

It'd be lucky to sell 3 million... and considering how much FF13 and FF Versus likely cost....

I don't see 3 million making a profit for SE on HD FF7.

How much do you expect the costs to be for HD FF? Well, I bet 100M+ at minimum for FFXIII. Maybe 20M for Versus.

I think your wrong on both accounts FF13 is not 100mill+ and FF 13 VS is definitely way more than 20mill...20mill is like a average HD game

They already have the engine ready.

They have the story set out, the music wont need any drastic changes from what we have in Advent Children...

They wont need to look for voice actors, as they are there...

And there is a LOT of demand. I wouldn't be surprised if this is more wanted than FFv13 right now, tbh.

1) They had the Engine for Versus as well.  I bet it's expensive as hell still.

2) Story would need massive rewriting... at least in the west.  The translation was awful.

3)  They still need to pay voice actors

4)  There is a lot of Internet fanboy hype out there.  This does not translate into real world sales.  There have been countless examples on this website.

Yeah,  i agree.  Honestly I think they're both probably around 50-60 Million.  It doesn't look like they're spending any less on Versus to me.

Though when you throw in advertising who knows it coud get up to 100.

I'd expect FF7 to cost a similar amount unless they "cheaped" out on it.  They've got to redraw all the assets afterall...  I mean if you wanna see how bad that gets... look at GT5.  They basically stated the reason the game took so long was all the HD models.

I can't see too many asset reuses from 13-14... and I can't see them going lesser quality or people will bitch.

1. Maybe... We have no idea how much it costs, but the remake would be cheaper.

2. That's not really a massive rewriting, fixing a bunch of mistakes...

3. True, but how much would that really cost in the long run? Not much...

4. There is hype in the real world too. FF7 AC selling a ton of DVD's/Blu-rays. Cloud/Sephy being possibly the 2 biggest RPG icons ever. The game HAS sold over 10 Million copies... There are a lot of fans who would buy it again.

Has there been a game with a 100mill+ budget this gen??? or even close( without advertisement because i think Gears,Halo, did)

1) Not really.  They'd still have to remake all the graphics... which is BY FAR the most expensive thing.  Think about it.  Development costs have doubled and higher this generation... why?

2) Nah, you'd have to rewrite everything so the dialogue comes off more credible... there was little in the translation that didn't come off horrible or stiltted.

3) Your kidding right?  It'll cost a lot more then finding the voice actors.... and they'll charge more because they know they can.  I mean why do you think they lock up voiceactors/actors for multiple seasons and games when they don't even know if it's going to be successful?

Because once they are established as the character they charge an arm and a leg.

Example.  Say they make a new Cowboy Bebop movie that's set during Spike's time in the sydnicate... how much do you think they'll be paying Spikes english VA out the nose because they know the fans won't except a different voice?

4. FF7 is a new product.  I'd expect a remake to sell LESS then AC.

Grand Theft Auto 4 i believe.

Which actually does fit all the same warning signs as FF13 now that i think about it.

Big focus on graphics, giant delays... etc.

Though Take 2 is like the worst managed developer in the industry, so it's probably not all that bad.  Then again FF13 is much longer and likely is using a much wider amount of graphical assets.

Since we're long past the days where recolors are acceptable.

Because, contrary to what most people believe, it would not be a sales monster. It would sell good, surely, but not FF7-levels.

Basically, I don't think Square see the point in doing a full-fledged HD remake of FF7 when they can just as easily make a new FF-game instead and net greater sales in doing so. If FF7 were to get a HD remake, I'd probably assume somewhere around 4-5 million ... With a new FF game, 5 million is pretty much the lowest possible number it could get.

That's why the re release of FF VII on psn has topped the PSN sales charts since it released in june.. and sold over 100K in its first week in the U.S psn alone.. and thats PSN..

FF13 cost rumors are way way over-exaggerated
