Forums - Nintendo - Matt Casamassina: Nintendo is Lazy!

Nintendo's revolution promised a lot.  Newbies are awestruck and others are left wanting.  There is no reason there isn't a great rts, fps, 3rd person action game and so many more that haven't been on other consoles.  Any concept that they have done that is cool is rather limited to many jaded gamers.  They also add on to the Wii series with WF+ and WS:resort and rumors of WMu+ while the otaku are left to fix their Nintendo games to expand them and flesh them out (SSBB+).

I understand that Nintendo is a business and obligated to make as much profit from it's ventures as possible and that core games are more expensive to make. However when we have a market where two players are loosing money to cater to our whims it's not unbelievable that they want more than they are getting from nintendo. Thus the negative attitude.  They are making it rather clear who they believe are larger portions of the bottom line and have moved on. I just wish most of us jaded gamers would move on too Its not like we wont get Motion controlled games that re more along our values in a few months to a year.

Which Nintendo franchises lend themselves to these genres? Pikmin 3, and a 3rd person Metroid are coming. Fist person Metroid is out there, and most of their key franchises have at least one iteration out. Nintendo can't force 3rd parties to make games for them though, and they don't make certain genres. Blaming Nintendo for the lack of those games is misguided.

There also have been a few very good efforts into the genres you list by the by. I can think of a few 3rd person action games that are fun, and a handful of good FPS games. I do agree that it could be better, but that is really the fault of the industry as a whole rather than any given company.

"But for players who do value cutting-edge graphics and audio -- there are millions of us, by the way; we're not a niche, as six million copies sold of Modern Warfare 2 in November show -- it's a slap in the face and a clear case of the bottom line taking precedence."

No. That only proves the game sold well, not that they bought it because they favor those things. Too many other HD games have those as well and haven't sold those numbers.

That is just bullshit logic.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

That whole quote just shows how Casamassina is no different from any other wii troll. And that's exactly what he's doing: trolling for clicks.

"Pier was a chef, a gifted and respected chef who made millions selling his dishes to the residents of New York City and Boston, he even had a famous jingle playing in those cities that everyone knew by heart. He also had a restaurant in Los Angeles, but not expecting LA to have such a massive population he only used his name on that restaurant and left it to his least capable and cheapest chefs. While his New York restaurant sold kobe beef for $100 and his Boston restaurant sold lobster for $50, his LA restaurant sold cheap hotdogs for $30. Initially these hot dogs sold fairly well because residents of los angeles were starving for good food and hoped that the famous name would denote a high quality, but most were disappointed with what they ate. Seeing the success of his cheap hot dogs in LA, Pier thought "why bother giving Los Angeles quality meats when I can oversell them on cheap hotdogs forever, and since I don't care about the product anyways, why bother advertising them? So Pier continued to only sell cheap hotdogs in LA and was surprised to see that they no longer sold. Pier's conclusion? Residents of Los Angeles don't like food."

"The so-called "hardcore" gamer is a marketing brainwashed, innovation shunting, self-righteous idiot who pays videogame makers far too much money than what is delivered."

To be honest, two recolored toads is incredibly lazy, and I said that from the start. They could at least have implemented Toadette or Daisy for the female demographics.

This isn't a shot at you Chrizum, but I've asked several "non-gamer" people whether they cared about the two toads or not, and I got a resounding No from all of them.

Does it REALLY matter if you have a sprite of Toads or a sprite of Daisy/Toadette? They all do the exact same thing!  Making a mountain out of an anthill..........enjoy the game.

This is exactly what Nintendo is counting on so they can continue being lazy.  This is a sentiment about Nintendo that I have shared for years.  The Wii is the the grand finale to Nintendos vision and frankly I dont like it.  Yes we do have a Wii and it isnt played much and the only reason we have one is my wife wanted one for Wii Fit.  Now it mostly just collects dust.  I refuse to purchase non-used software now.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Out of curiousity, what genres do you enjoy?

It would not have mattered. Some one would want Wario or Waluigi and another person would want to know why he can't just select the third and fourth character from a selection screen featuring characters from the Mario Universe. The team made a design decision and stuck with it. Yes Peach and Daisy would have been better but I'd rather them be in their own game. Nintendo needs to start featuring more female lead charaters in games.

They do it very well with Samus and Metroid.

I don't know if lazy is the right word. Mininum effort, minimum cost, minimum risk, maximum reward... sounds like smart to me.

Of course Nintendo can get away with it because they're Nintendo. The last two years have been absolutely terrible for Wii. I guess Nintendo fans are used to it from the N64/Cube days, but I'm not. Looking at the Wii GOTY nominations thread just makes me sad. Next year looks better.

And yes, that is the best gif ever.

completely agree with you OkeyDokey.

the only lazy companies are third parties. most of their games arent on the wii for whatever reason they can come up with. i wonder when microsoft and sony implemented motion controls, will fanboys still support them?

Sure, Nintendo should've poured millions into creating a high-tech third place console just to appease the "hardcore" gamer. That quote shows how spoiled these people are. As if the whole industry exists to meet their needs.

"We don't want just 2 HD consoles, we want ALL THREE!!!! We're gamers, we deserve all video games!!!! WE'RE IMPORTANT!!!!" STFU, Matt, and go join IGN PS3.

I gave up listening to anything he had to say after his personal crusade against Wii Music. Nintendo might not be meeting his expectations, but I'm fine with what they're doing. Telling me I'm wrong, and my tastes in gaming are wrong, is pure arrogant bullshit.

And honestly, I don't even get where this is coming from. Nintendo has released so many awesome games this gen with more on the way. Does he want EVERY SINGLE GAME to cater to his needs? He's nothing but a spoiled man-child....

He can take this little tirade and shove it up his ass....amasina.

If this is Nintendo being lazy then the competition and the rest of us would want to hope that they never try hard.
