Forums - Gaming - Greenberg: "Halo Reach biggest game of 2010"

It won't come even close.

Saleswise? Surely you would have to give NSMBWii, Wii Sports Resort and perhaps even Wii Fit Plus a chance to top it, given that they will all be selling for the full year, versus Reach which will be released in....?

It has a chance of being the biggest in terms of profit, but i dont think it will deserve it,considering that other great games wont get the same attention

I think in terms of profit the next CoD will be the king, because Activision will be launching another game using the existing engine and Reach is powered by a new engine that is costing really good money I supose.

If you put it like that,GT 5 takes the cake,Prologue probably reduced the costs of the new engine to very limited numbers

It's Starcraft II vs Halo in 2010

Should be really interesting.

It's a fair point to me, I agree with you. But GT5 is costing a lot of money to produce otherwise Sony would have rushed it if they had the resources to.

How are we defining 'biggest'? If he means biggest in terms of sales, then I expect it will be one of the top selling games next year. But it'll have to do extremely well next winter to beat out the full year sales of NSMB Wii and Wii Sports Resort. As some have suggested, another big competitor is GT5.

Do you guys think that Halo Reach will sell more than NSMBWii and Wii Sports Resort in 2010?

:O

OMG let's take a bet you greenberg's :P

The interview is discussing video game sales in the United States and there's a good chance he'll be proven right about Halo: Reach.  When discussing the best selling games of the year they only count sales for that year so Wii Sports Resort and/or NSMB Wii would have to rake up sales of 6-7 million in 2010 alone in the U.S. to best his claim.  I'm basing the 6-7 million mark on Halo 3's impressive attachment rate and the fact that this is a new major installment in the series (the engine, etc are being completely overhauled for this game and that alone should attract a lot of gamers to it).

To clarify my earlier comment, I think Halo: Reach will be the biggest 2010-game. Meaning, biggest out of the ones releasing in 2010. I think Wii Sports Resort and New Super Mario Bros. Wii will sell better during 2010, but they are 2009-games. So yeah, they'll be bigger in 2010, but I think that Halo: Reach will be the biggest 2010-game.

Hope that cleared stuff up.

(The only game I see realistically having a shot at beating Halo: Reach is GT5, but I think Halo: Reach is esentially Halo 4 so I see it easily going to 8 million ... Something I don't quite see for GT5. Sorry!)

He may be right, I think he's really just trying to get excitement up. Which is his job.

In terms of who gets the biggest game next year it looks like between GT5 and Halo Reach. That said, we don't know what Nintendo has up their sleeves yet. It's absolutely foolish to underestimate them.

@ majin

Oh just talking about 2010 games....

Yeah, being that the case my chips are on the Halo Reach side then. Don't know what Nintendo can pull out to beat it in the short term, of course they can launch things that sell more than Halo but it will take long legs for it. Halo's have huge opening weeks and then droping legs...
