Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Midway blames Wii shortages for slow software roll-out

But publisher has resolved PlayStation 3 technical issues

Midway has has said that manufacturing delays of Nintendo's Wii has had a direct affect on the company's roll-out of software to support the machine.

In a conference call following the release of the company's Q3 financial results [33.5 million USD loss], vice president of publishing Miguel Iribarren said that products for the busy Christmas period have had longer lead times than necessary

"The demand for Wii product has put a pretty big strain on Nintendo's production capacity, and that has in turn, for us, turned into longer lead times for some of our Wii products," commented Iribarren.

"And that, during the holidays – given product coming out in a short timeframe – has resulted, for us, in reduced ability to get product to shelves."

In the same call the publisher admitted that it had faced some technical issues with its first products for PlayStation 3 – including the best-selling Stranglehold – but that it was now over any architecture problems.

"We ran into some technical issues developing for the PlayStation 3 that have taken more time to finalise than we expected," admitted David Zucker, CEO of Midway.

"We do believe these technical issues are now complete at a core level in our engine," added Zucker, and that he expects all SKUs of multiformat titles to ship "day and date."

So...does anyone know what Midway is talking about here? Are they saying there weren't enough Wiis available to justify making games for it? Or is demand >>> supply scaring them?

There is no such thing as a console war. This is the first step to game design.

They're trying to come up with any excuse for poo like Cruis'n.

Pfff... That sounds like a sad argument that doesn't fit in...

Blaiming Nintendo and their shortages?! Pfff... C'mon now! Just pathetic!

Take your proud with you and say u suck in creating games for Wii... That's why they don't sell!

C'mon, just take a look at this ugly bitch! Mickey's speedway USA on N64 looks WAY better then this XD...

@MIDWAY: IT'S YOUR OWN FAULT! NOT NINTENDO'S!

THE NETHERLANDS

@Chadius--hands towel

yeah i dont get the "they are in super hots demand levels---but we cant get games on the system

There is NO excuse for poo like Cruisin'.

Lame excuse, "the wii is selling faster than any system ever, so we are going slower than ever." Seriously, there are more Wii's than any other next gen console out there..... so "we are proceeding with caution". WTF?

If you want to make up some good bs, try "we are making sure we are making the best use of the unique control system of the wii, instead of f*#@ing it up like all the other 3rd party budget brands stickin wii owners with shovelware. We want to give them a quality product, and are taking our time in doing so. Right now we have the team cleaning up the absolute poo you've seen as "Cruisin" and we are giving those graphics to the ps2, and are actually spending time creating a good wii product"

Instead they'll release this poo as is with bad controls during the wave of really good games coming out and then blame Nintendo.... "See, Wii buyers don't support 3rd party. Wii buyers will easily support 3rd party QUALITY products. We even buy really old games as long as they haven't been given half-assed ports that don't use the control system in a next gen way....look at RE4Wii, over 1,000,000 happy zombie fighters served. :)

Ever wonder why Midway's true glory days were in the years of olde? Need a hint?

BAM! There it is!

I once heard that Nintendo supplies the propiatary dvd's used in the Wii. Could they mean they are not getting enough blanks from Nintendo to produce as many game discs as they want?
