The PS3 makes loads of money for EA! Just look at FIFA 10!

EA invested millions of dollars into the Saturn and SEGA pulled the plug on it. That is why they didn't support the Dreamcast. |
While that is true there was no reason for EA not to start supporting the dreamcast after it was such a success for the first year. Here is an interesting article.

"Sega is seen by EA as a drowning man without their lifeboat, and they are completely content to watch them drown. It's so painfully obvious that they're just out to see Sega go down. I mean, they're porting Madden to Macintosh, for crying out loud. I'm sure all five Mac gamers will appreciate it much more than the million who bought NFL2K. Yeah, and I'll be quitting this job to work at 7-11 in the near future, too."

Well by that logic of yours Britney Spears probably is the best female musician and Toyota Corolla is the best car ever made. not trying to knock the PS1 as it was a great system but anyone who thinks sales numbers only indicate gaming quality needs to re-evaluate their opinion on gaming... and a lot of other things. |
I'm not trying to knock Sega either, even though I sorta am. I guess I'm not nostalgic and don't understand why people liked Sega so much. If I had been born in the good days of 2D sonic then maybe my opinion would be different.

People liked sega for a few reasons. There is a lot more to Sega than Sonic.
Their arcade division kept delivering games that were fun from the moment you push start.
In their prime, they never matched nintendo in quality but were more resorceful. Nintendo would make like 1 or 2 amazing games per year...but sega would release like 10 B+ games in the meantime.
They weren't afraid to experiment and try new things. There are countless innovations which Sega should be credited for trying first. I mean my sega saturn was going online, browsing the web and playing bomberman and Sega rally against people. It took Sony and nintendo another 10 years and 2 console generations to implement this.
The bottom line on why they failed is that Sony lost more money with PS3 this year than Sega did with Saturn and Dreamcast for all years combined. they just weren't a big company and needed to be successful to stay in business.

Yeah that's true. I gotta give them credit for trying new things. Even the ones that kinda blew like the 32x and Sega CD. And again that was before my time so I can't really talk about the games.
It is kinda sad to see a small company like that die (well the console part of them), Sony and MS are both huge and in the Global 500 companies so they have tons of money.
I just want Mass Effect collection from them. Please EA.
EA is in trouble...I suspect they are going to go the way of Citibank, and break off the parts that are not the core in a few years.
