Forums - Nintendo - Super Mario Galaxy bombs in Japan - only sells 130,000 on day 1

Hmmm... aren't games supposed to be released on saturdays or sundays? So people won't skip work or school to get the games...

Also, bomb is the wrong word. Maybe disappointing or underperforming, but as its thursday and the japanese are @ school/work... I see the sales skyrocketing on the weekend.

Okay who says the preorders of 700,000 were retailers and not consumers? I'm under the impression from every site I've read the story that it's a consumer number. like this:

http://www.infendo.com/wii/super-mario-galaxy-preorders-hit-700kin-japan/

And again the same blog that reported 130,000 first day sales also reported the 700,000 preorder figure.

very likely, first day sales => hardcore gamers, wii => not much hardcore gamers CONCLUSION  : sales Will not be halo 3 ( US ) like but will stay very very long in sales charts

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

I love how this is serious buisness to you. Have you seen the Japanese charts? The gamedidn't bomb or under proform. This is not America. From what I can tell, Japan buys more on the weekend then during the week. Why else can they not release DQ on weekends. And again, we can't tell anything from DAY 1. A WEEK IS 7 DAYS! That means it has 6 more days to sell, which means it could preform very well between now and the end of the week. In fact, the sales #s we'll get will only cout for 5 days total. You can say the game under prefoermed all you want but the front page says that this game's first days sales are better then all the games during a whole week.

I fixed the wiki page, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Mario_Galaxy .

@ footflexible

We've already agreed that the 700k was retailer pre-orders, not consumers...

who?

@ Kirby007

Read posts from the second game... John Lucas.

Games coming out on thursdays have not had affected other games that have came out on thursdays. Many games have came out on that day and had sales above 150k. WE HAVE BEEN DOING FIRST DAY SALES FOR SOME TIME NOW!! They've always happened on this day, what makes it any different from last week first day sales?

Now tanking NSMB numbers... I'm not so sure this game was supposed to sell over 500K first week..

NSBM sold 910K first week. DS: 8450K

So in order to have the same opening SMG should sell

SMG sells 400K first week to 3720K Wii users...

Now I'm not so concerned

well just see 700.000 nothing about retail

  1. "have not had affecteed" WTF? I'm not expert, but I don't think you need had twice.  You used have like 3 times in that sentence. I can't understand what you are saying
  2. Mario Galaxy sales: SERIOUS BUISNESS
  3. We record sales by week. We look at sales first day.
  4. What games, specificall, sold 150k. Was it in Japan? If it's in the US, then phail.
  5. "They've always happened on this day, what makes it any different from last week first day sales" Who "they". What do you mean by "always happened on this day" What about "last week first day sales" What game are we talking about, because I'm sure there has to be one more then Mario Galaxy. Also, that sentence is a comma splice
  6. I don't know what your talking about any more
