I think the fact that the consumer spent more money on the Xbox360 than on the PS3 and even the Wii is something to be proud of.

Walmart November price drop was for less than a week. And it was not a real price-drop, it came with a giftcard.
The $199 entry price stayed the same for the year. It is about keeping the sales high at one pricepoint for a year and MS did this very well.
And the MW2 bundle is even $399. So people saw value in it.

I really think some people feel like MS has to apologise for their success.

no, it is not apologize

it is just that people are comparing to last year and make some : "wow, pretty good"

while the only reason of this succeed are the MW bundle exclusive and the wallmart offer.
Also, it was not 1 week, it was 1 week on 1 month of 4 weeks .... pretty huge indeed because it add the 100k sales that make it outsold the PS3

as for the PS3, it is not a "free" success but people act like if MS get this success passively ...

even IF this is only because of walmart and MW2 bundle (as if there were no other consoles sold...) what is so bad about it? MS made the right moves to get the Xbox360 bundle and obviously Walmart made the right choice to offer this bundle with the Xbox360. That is the reason why there will be another elite-deal in december.

You can't spin this. Selling the same number of consoles without big price-drops for more than a year is awesome.

I do agree. I know what is my point and your indeed.

the big question is :

can't we consider the wallmart offer, the elite price cut, and the MW2 bundle match a big price drop ?

also, outside november, I get the impression that the 360 was performing down in YoY comparaison ... ?

source I don't get this

so PS3 sold 30K a week apart from that week

Wii sold around 80K a week

I'm confused

No, he already did the division for you.

PS3 did 90k a week, Wii 237k a week. The Black Friday week was massive for the DS / PS3, and oddly tiny for the Wii. The 360 was probably in-between.

Don't know if you guys realized this but...

Black Friday Week    NPD Nov         Nov  - BF Week

Wii              550k                   1260k                710k

PS3             440k                   710k                  270k

DS              ~1000k               1700k                700k

BF week figures are from Nintendo and Sony statements.

Nov = 4 weeks

Ergo:

PS3 sold ~90k in Nov in non-Black Friday weeks

DS sold ~ 233.3k in Nov in non-Black Friday weeks

Wii sold ~ 236.7 in Nov in non-Black Friday weeks

He means per week. So PS3 sold around 90k per week.

no, the entry price stayed the same and the MW2 bundle was actually $100 more expensive than the elite. The only real price-cut was $50 on the elite bundle. This was not that big tbh.

And YoY it is SLIGHTLY down, but still good for a console in its fifth year.

VGChartz Hardware data for the period 06th Jan 2008 to 29th Nov 2008:

Console X360
Total
7,648,862

VGChartz Hardware data for the period 04th Jan 2009 to 28th Nov 2009:

Console X360
Total
7,294,105

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Something fishy about those numbers. It really doesnt make sense. Microsoft is bragging about having the best november, they have said nothing about this during black friday.

Conspiracy theory kinda thing.

The PS3  was selling 90k per week for the frist 3 weeks of Nov 2009 plus 440k PS3's on the week of Black Friday; so

PS3 frist 3 weeks = 270k or (3 weeks*90k)

PS3 BF = 440k

Add up the 3 weeks and the BF week for the PS3 and you have 710k total for the month of Nov 09.

So basically for the whole month of November the PS3 stayed flat until BF, which dont make sense to me. Why is the PS3 not seeing a bump week after week in the U.S like the Wii and 360 did in November 09?

The PS3 sold more than 90k per week, 90k is too low. NPD undertracked PS3.

Make sense... PS3 numbers from VGC for America.

November week 1:  101,700 (like under 90k for US only)
November week 2:  124,040 (like under 110k for US only)
November week 3:  138,006 (like under 120k for US only)

So VGC has PS3 around 105k per week for US only.

The VGC and NPD numbers for the PS3 are very similar.

yes PS3 numbers are actually accurate this month

its just Wii60 need to be bumped up, wii a bit, 360 a bit more

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

It's funny whoever has PS3 lower is always wrong, whether it be NPD or VGC. It's a conspiracy LOL!

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.
