Forums - Gaming - Quantum Theory exclusivity a marketing hoax?

Been pondering if gaming companies are starting to use false exclusivity as a marketing hoax for their games. Quantum Theory seems like a perfect candidate as it seems a little strange to first announce it as an exclusive and then just a few Months later suddenly announce something else. So my theory is that it was just a clever marketing ploy.

The setup is easy, first you announce it as a console exclusive making sure all the console fanboys post to every possible online forum about the 'incredible' new exclusive coming to their platform, and thus creating more mindshare.

Then a little later you announce it to be cross platform, making sure all the fanboys of the other console(s) post to every possible online forum about the lost exclusivity and it being proof of their own consoles superiority. Thus building even more mindshare.

Sound plausible.

If They weren't doing it before they will be now lol.

maybe , or maybe no one cared about it when it was Ps3 exclusives , even PS3 most fans didn't notice it.

I live for the sword, the steel, and the gun...

- Wasteland - The Mission.

If they did it for publicity they failed.
Hype for this game is minimal and most ps3 owners don't care.

Maybe they will be more lucky with catching x360 fanboys on the promise of stolen exclusive.

I think this might be true for other games, like FF. I just don't think Quantum Theory was well known enough for this to work out.

@KingFate: well I don't really think FF needed the extra collumn space, it is well hyped enough as it is. So FF for me was just a decision that made after a few years of development probably with some promises from MS about misc marketing support etc.

And while Quantum Theory might not be top of the news exactly as it is, just think of how totally of the radar this game would have been without their exclusivity and now non-exclusivity announcements.

It's possible, but I think they woke up one morning, took a long, hard look at 360/PS3 sales of more average titles, took a long look at the expectation in the market, remembered they were using Unreal engine which is easy to stick on 360, and thought to themselves 'why the hell are we exclusive to PS3 instead of 360?'

As a PS3 owner, whenever I heard of this game or saw it mentioned I always thought to myself - why the hell are they exclusive?

I would go multiplatform with that title in a heartbeat if it was my decision.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

If they've really just begun development on the 360 version they have only 5 months or so to complete the port. It sounds to me like they've been working on this for a while.

Perhaps the quality simply wasn't high enough to warrant it as an exclusive. I remember there were rumours about this title seeing a different publisher. Perhaps they made efforts to have Sony publish it.

Could be, but I don't think we'll ever know for sure.
