Forums - PC - ISP problems with MW2 (I told you so)

LOL, your internet companies still have "fair usage policies" in the U.S?
I'm with Sky in the UK, absolutely no fair use policy and no maximum downloads per month, all for £5 a month as I already have Sky TV, 12mb connection and i'm normally downloading at least 7gb a day AND I run my own server from home, never ever had any issues.

I too have been gaming online for years and NEVER had any issues with ISP's, it sounds to me that PC gamers are still throwing their teddies out the pram over the dedicated server nonsense, they will say anything to try and harm MW2, shame they all failed......

That is hilarious actually =)

I think the most likely explaination for this is what is called sandy vaginitas.

Ok so thats the diagnosis for anyones girlfriend if they have sex on the beach and she seems especially pissed off the next day.

Tease.

Yes, that is one likely scenario where sandy vaginitas will occur :)

I call BS on these stories.

Consoles have been using P2P for years.  I have used 4 different providers, including cable, DSL, and FiOS.  I have gamed for hours and hours and hours on those different providers and I have been host on these Xbox games very often.

I never received any letters or complaints or anything.

I think some PC gamers are still a little sour and making up some BS.

And if any of you think that IWnet's P2P setup is better than MS's... you're tripping

 Negative:

Also, ISPs can tell when the packet flow initiates from a console. They know what XBL and PSN network traffic looks like, or at least their automated shaping and monitoring software does. Their automated software does not know what IWnet traffic looks like, hence the warnings -

Which I might add are automatically trigged. No human likely looked at them, its ISP monitor software seeing something that looks like a server using lots of upload and having many different connections from many different home users.

In all honesty the problem will probably get worked out by ISPs soon, they just have to identify some unique characteristics of the IWnet data and exclude it from being flagged. IWnet still sucks though.

another reason to hate Activision / Blizzard

Really, ISPs have the rules against servers because of the massive amount of traffic they generate.

However, PC game hosting is an entirely different animal.  It is not going to generate the same amount of traffic for nearly as long.

I think the ISP companies are taking one rule (no hosting) and creating a blanket effect for everything that resembles hosting.  That, coupled with their typical lack of computer knowledge, causes problems (I particularly like when they try to explain to me how Linux or Mac broke my internet, or is not network capable).

InfinityWard is to blame also.  I know that all gaming companies are in it for the profits, such is Capitalism.  However, most gaming companies know better than to screw PC gamers out of the things they take for granted any FPS game should have.  Also, pricing it at 60$ to just gain an extra 10$ in profits seem ludicrous (The 10$ on console games are usually partly due to licensing costs).

Most PC gamers like control over what is happening to their computer.  To some, having their computer host the game without permission is unacceptable.

Sky have a fair usage policy, I suggest re-reading your contract.  I also call bullshit on the 7Gb a day claim.  There is no practical use to download that much on a daily basis.

LMAO, sky do NOT have ANY fair use policies, it was on bbc news a few months back stating that sky was the first in the UK not to have one, they also state this on their website,

"Just wanted to let you know that Sky has removed their Fair Use Policy from Sky Broadband Max.

This is effective immediately, the Fair Use Policy has been removed from the Sky Broadband Max product, enabling Sky to offer the UK's only 'truly unlimited' broadband service. This applies to new & existing Sky BB Max customers and the Sky Broadband Contract has been updated to reflect this."

And I download more than 7gb a day, one 360 game is 7gb, i download at least 2 a day (i leave it overnight), that is at least 14gb a night, add to this anything I do on the pc/360 during the day like download demo's, music, movies etc
