Forums - Sony - Taking apart my PS3 controller... should I?

I'm having a problem with the D-pad... In fact, the exact same problem I had with my PS2 controller after one of my friends was button mashing on it.....  The Down, and left buttons on the controller click, and don't respond properly.  It's very annoying, because it's costing me battles in Marvel Vs. Capcom 2.

Anyway, last time I took apart a dual shock controller, I wound up screwing up the entire pad and it is now useless.  I snapped the rumble wires because they're so thin, and, there's a piece I can't figure out where to put back, so, for safe keeping, it's in the Tony Hawk game case, since that game sucks, and I know I'll never play it....

But, what to do about this PS3 controller?  Besides buy a new one, if I were going to do that, I wouldn't bother asking anyway.  Does anyone have any sort of intructions, or some kinda PS3 controller lay-out so that I don't screw this one up?  I take apart my SEGA Genesis controllers from time to time to fix and clean them, and remove burn spots that get in the way of the button responce...  But, that PS2 controller is as good as dead... I don't want a repeat of my PS3 controller, and I REALLY don't want to break the rumble wires..  All I want to do is stop the D-pad from acting up, and I think I know why it's doing what it's doing, but, I need instructions to know what goes where...

Buy a new one if your one is old or call up Sony. Don't try to do on your own.

go easy on your controller, I know it's called "Button Mashing". but you don't have to go nuts over it.

Here's what you do, go buy a PS3 controller from your local Bestbuy store, buy the PRP... and after 3 months, send your old controller in for gift card.

lol I did........................ then i had to buy another 1.

You know what, I used to take apart most if not all of the controllers for all of my systems.  Sometimes I was fixing or trying to fix, physical damage.  Other times a button kinda just got stuck somehow.

It was always a piece of cake.  Then came the PS1, still easy.  Then the PS2, same story, nothing screwed up from my nerd tamperings.

Then one day, the...day finally came.  I dropped my PS3 controller and it must have hit the perfect spot because the right stick got stuck on the inside.  There was nothing I could do for it, I had to boldy go where I had not gone before.  Into the belly of the PS3 controller.

And to make a long story short, I fucked it up even worse and had to buy a new one.  Though I can say about a month or so ago, my X button was sticking (it might have been just my imagination though) and I decided to open my controller.  I learned from my mistakes and made it through the task.

I say open it, but be careful.  And when you are being careful, carefully stop and tell yourself to be even more careful.

Also, the DS3 is built a lot better than the original PS3 controllers (which is the one I screwed up the first time).

I should, since I smashed it against a wall. But I don't have a small enough screw driver yet.

I doubt you're good enough to use a CONTROLLER as an excuse to your losing on Marvel. A controller is just asking to lose in a fighter.

But fixing them is easy, I've had to do it to two controllers.

The Halo francise is the most overrated bland game to ever hit the console market. It provides a bad name to all FPS that even showed effort at creating an original entertaining plot.

I probably have more ps3 games than you :/

lol I had to open mine to fix the r2 or l2. Can't remember which. End result, the controller doesn't work in some games and the l2 and r2 are fucked :p

Check out my game about moles ^

Don't try it yourself. I tried to take apart my Sixaxis Controller because my R2 button was f*cked up.
I thought: "Can't be that hard, right, it's just a controller, right? WRONG.
Well... I bought a spare part, tried to repair my Sixaxis.... and failed. I never figured out how to get it together again. What did I learn fro that? Never screw around with things you don't have a clue about.

(Just that you know: I repaired radios, PCs, DVD Players and even my PSP so I'm not a noob at these things.)
