You know what, I used to take apart most if not all of the controllers for all of my systems. Sometimes I was fixing or trying to fix, physical damage. Other times a button kinda just got stuck somehow.
It was always a piece of cake. Then came the PS1, still easy. Then the PS2, same story, nothing screwed up from my nerd tamperings.
Then one day, the...day finally came. I dropped my PS3 controller and it must have hit the perfect spot because the right stick got stuck on the inside. There was nothing I could do for it, I had to boldy go where I had not gone before. Into the belly of the PS3 controller.
And to make a long story short, I fucked it up even worse and had to buy a new one. Though I can say about a month or so ago, my X button was sticking (it might have been just my imagination though) and I decided to open my controller. I learned from my mistakes and made it through the task.
I say open it, but be careful. And when you are being careful, carefully stop and tell yourself to be even more careful.
Also, the DS3 is built a lot better than the original PS3 controllers (which is the one I screwed up the first time).
