Don't try it yourself. I tried to take apart my Sixaxis Controller because my R2 button was f*cked up.
I thought: "Can't be that hard, right, it's just a controller, right? WRONG.
Well... I bought a spare part, tried to repair my Sixaxis.... and failed. I never figured out how to get it together again. What did I learn fro that? Never screw around with things you don't have a clue about.
(Just that you know: I repaired radios, PCs, DVD Players and even my PSP so I'm not a noob at these things.)
