Sony PlayStation 3 It's all fun and games until the battery dies. Unlike its competitors, which use replaceable AA batteries, the PS3's remote control is glued shut. When the battery goes, Sony customers have to blow $55 on a new controller. Sony says there's an "environmental benefit" since gamers don't have to toss their batteries on a regular basis, but Isidor Buchmann, president of battery-equipment maker Cadex Electronics, says captive batteries are becoming common because it's cheaper for companies to eliminate the battery housing and hatch. |
LOL, sure its more expensive then having a rechargeable battery (sarcasm). And also there should still be a housing inside of the controller for the battery. Surely one the worst article on video game ever.
The sad thing is that some people will see this and not pick up the PS3 because of this article.

I tried to use the guarantee but for some weird draconian law (or something) they didn't change my controller. The solution, bought a Dualshock 3 and what a great difference it's better build, much more solid and reliable. I trow the SIXAXIS to the garbage. (where it belongs I guess) |
I have 4 sixaxis from release day of the PS3 and they are all working flawlessly.

Wow.... Guys, I think they mean when the battery itself will no longer function... regardless of charges. And, sure, the battery's in the controller, and you can't replace it, so, when it stops working, in however many YEARS, you'll have to buy a new controller....
They're not saying that once the batter dies after 20 hours of play, you'll have to buy a new controller........................
that's exactly what i liked about the ps3 controller. It's easy to just plug in and charge.
currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

That's possible, but if you look you'll see that they never once mention that the batteries are rechargeable, only that they can't be replaced. If you were someone just reading this article to get an idea you might actually come away thinking that the battery is just a complete con and they hardwired some AA's into it.

Well yes, after hundreads and hundreads or should I say thousands and thousands of charges the battery will die. But you can plug it in with a cable. Anyway you will probably want to change the controller for other reason before the battery die.
