Forums - Gaming - does video game music help you engage and enjoy the game more?!

It does to me...

These games are the ones that really pulled me in with their music

ssbb

The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker (and other zelda games I suppose)

Kirby 64

super mario world and nsmbwii

super mario 64

lost winds

and probably more... If you know a game that  has taken you in with the music they give out... and do you have a favorite?

Well it must do. Put it this way. I can not play any game no matter what it is without sound. I just cant get into it. and sound includes music so

The lion king. Playing that game without sound so non of the epic music would be unbearable

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

Makes a Huge difference...but it also depends on what i'm playing, if i'm just playing a sports game, I don't really care, typically, but i'll leave on sound effects, even if I turn of the music and play my own in the background

Just waiting for that PS Vita to come out so I can play some full featured games on the go with that beautiful screen and control scheme...

I get all mushy when I hear the main Halo theme or the original Zelda theme.

Most game music doesn't really do much for me, though.

With that said, I find most JRPG music to be incredibly annoying. It probably has something to do with hearing the same song or sound effect for the 14,000th time around hour ten of the game and suddenly coming to the dreadful realization that you're only 1/3rd of the way through the game and will hear that sound effect/music theme at least 37,000 more times before you beat the game or break the disc in two, whichever comes first.

Doesnt jrpg's music change from time to time, different battle scenes? I'd just mute the game to save a life or two... and the disc of course... also lets not forget the t.v. and the console or controller...

These are the games that have had music so good I listened to it on its own afterwards:

Super Mario Bros.
Balloon Fight
The Legend of Zelda
Tetris
Dr. Mario
Mega Man 2
Super Metroid
Donkey Kong Country
Final Fantasy 4
Final Fantasy 6
Katamari Damacy
Super Smash Bros. Brawl

I like a lot of other game music, but those are the game soundtracks that I actually play every once in a while. Mostly I listen to the Katamari music, DK Jamz, the FF6 OST, and the recent remake of the entire score to FF 4 by OCRemix.

they make it feel more alive, I mean, play a videogame in muting

Absolutely. When the music blends well with the on screen action it definitely pulls you in more.
